6 days to go for my RTKR!

I am a 36/M/NYC with 11 days left to my RTKR. I am extremely nervous and I know that all will go well. If anyone has any advice please feel free to advise.

Thanks to everyone who has answered questions and to you JO for being so informative and to dedicating your time to others!

Thanks,
NuNeez

Relax---enjoy the ride---the surgery is a piece of cake---you will need your energy for the rehab...I had both of mine done on 11/8/07 never regretted it. It is a great deal of work, but boy, is it worth it!

Try to relax....you're going to be in great hands. They do this every day....they know you're anxious, they'll handle that first thing! If you went to Joint Camp, do the ankle pumps and other exercises that they suggested. If you have a laptop computer, take it, we'll be looking forward to hearing from you.

Wishing you the best.....I'm just 6 weeks ahead of you...

Any particular issues we can address for you, NuNeez?

.

Actually there is, can anyone tell me how their NuNeez felt while at the beach? With the strong currents and breaking waves I had been wondering if anyone has felt discomfort or instability.

Interesting question - don't think I ever remember being asked that one before! I think this is over to you guys - you are the users. Got an answer for our friend here?

I haven't made it to the ocean since TKR, but I can tell you that after my first knee surgery many years ago, I didn't like the current hitting me from the side, straight on was OK. I don't remember it being painful, but it did feel weird.

beachcombing

Wow--- hadn't thought of my knee at the beach.... the water is so cold at the Oregon coast that I rarely go into water when doing my "beachcomber" thing....
In June we head down to Mexico for our annual sun worshiping trip and I will test it out! We spend a couple of weeks in Playa del Carmen and are going snorkeling from Cozumel. Last year I wasn't able to go in the water at all because when I tried to wade out from the shore the waves made my knee feel so unstable and painful. Later that same day I ended up in the emergency clinic in Cozumel with a doctor who spoke little English (I speak very little Spanish) and a knee that would tolerate no weight bearing. That was my big wake-up call that this knee thing had entered a new phase...

But that was my "old" knee and this year I will test it out with my new super-knee! I know that without this surgery my beachcombing days--- whether in Oregon or Mexico--- would have been over. The surgery and recovery, tho a BIG deal and a LOT of HARD work--- are definitely worth it to get my "life" back.

I went for a walk in the sunshine yesterday and found myself tearing up--- not because I was in pain (I wasn't) but because I had spent months thinking I might never be able to enjoy long walks again and only 8 weeks after getting my new knee--- I'm back!
