I had THR on my left hip on November 10th, 2008, 10 months ago at 40 years old.

Sitting is still occasionally painful, as if I am sitting on a golf ball (my new hip obviously). When walking I will occasionally get a sharp pain mid-thigh, like someone stabbing me in the femur. I also will get an odd pain sensation in the groin crease on my operative side when I sit or bend over, like the soft tissues are folding over on themselves.

:sct:

How much of this is: Normal, Temporary, Permanent, Worrisome and I should call my Dr.?

Thanks for your feedback.

Well I would definately go and see your surgeon., Then if it is all normal you can relax about it. No sense worrying for nothing. I do not experience anything you are speaking of . But I am only one person, I'm sure others will be by.

I don't know what NORMAL is, but I had my surgery one month after you did 12-10-08, and except for getting stiff when I sit for too long, I have no other symptoms from the surgery. The "golf ball" thing went away back at week 12 or so for me.

Given the differences, i would definately talk to your doctor about what's going on. But we are all a little different...

Hi Abaird and Welcome! Judy (Sewell) just gave you excellentt advice! I'm also 10 months out, having had TRHR days before you! Maybe you're just having "growing painsl with your prosthesis adapting to the muscles and tissues surrounding it! I am very activemmmwhen was the last time you saw your OS...what material is your hip? You'll probably need an Xray....But please think positive!!! Just get yourself checked!! ((:0)!

Hi welcome Im a knee so i dont know but others will help they always do.....I sure hoe you feel better soon....Sorry you are hurting..............( But if its bothering you that much I agree get it checked...........

Hi, abaird....welcome to BoneSmart. We're glad you found us!

I'd have to agree with the others above that you need to make an appointment to discuss this with your surgeon. It's not something you want to worry about and second-guess.

Please let us know how you get along in your search to get to the bottom of the pain. We will be here for whatever support you need!

Hi there - sorry I miss this yesterday - had a day doing some retail therapy!

When walking I will occasionally get a sharp pain mid-thigh, like someone stabbing me in the femur.
That sounds like an issue at the end of the femoral prosthesis or stem. That sounds worrying - get it checked out.

I also will get an odd pain sensation in the groin crease on my operative side when I sit or bend over, like the soft tissues are folding over on themselves.
Again, a worrisome symptom. Get it checked.

All in all, I'd say you had a pretty good chance some thing is working loose somewhere, probably the femoral component. It's a tad early for this to be happening under normal circumstances and I'd make sure you go see a surgeon who specialises in hip revisions.
