Thanks to everyone for your replies. I'll definitely be finding a different OS for my follow-ups!!
And thanks Judy for the advice to work up slowly and on flat terrain. I know I pushed myself the first time around and I don't want to do that again : )

Hi,
I had my right hip replaced on April 11, 2012. Recovery started OK, but slowed down because I developed sciatica - maybe because I did my daily walks on my hilly street and was always going up or down slight inclines. The OS gave me a Medrol pack on July, 30 which really helped with the...
I'm just 5 days ahead of you: 4/11 surgery. I had all kinds of pain when I started walking without a cane and I also worried about what was wrong. I didn't realize how much more work it is to walk without the cane vs. with the cane. I could do less and less and the pain got worse and worse. So I...
What a coincidence to read your first post. I was just thinking of contacting the nurse who taught the hip replacement class and suggest that she make a point to mention that while the bone on bone pain will be gone, there's plenty of other pain associated with this surgery. I'm still having...
Hi, I had the same sensation during the first month. Couldn't hear anything, but I could certainly feel it with each step towards the end of a longish walk - and I was still using a walker at that time. Hated that feeling!!!!! It did go away in a few weeks. I felt it again (to a much lesser...
Hi Cheeky,
I've found that the more I do, the less I can do - if that makes sense. I'm doing too much too soon. So it may not be coincidental that you're having problems after returning to work. Rather than worrying, ask your doctors. Stress doesn't help healing : )

Suki,
The heel/toe has to do with what part of your foot hits the ground first with every step. When I limped, my foot on my bad hip side would just sort of clump down - the whole foot at one time. Now when I step out, my heel touches the ground first. Then as I continue through the step, as...
I started doing my walks without a cane about 1 1/2 weeks ago. And my walks got slower and shorter. I'm amazed at how much more work it is to walk without the cane. So I went back to the cane yesterday for a walk - I was able to walk with a better stride for a longer distance and felt I was...
Will you be going back to your surgeon next week to get the sutures removed? You can certainly talk to him or his nurse at that time. Ask WHY he's not giving you an adequate number of pills. Do you have any other medical conditions? Did you have an anterior approach and he doesn't think you need...
I'm almost at 9 weeks and I'm feeling the same way. Physically and mentally. I bet that in 6 months and then even more so at 1 year we'll be wondering what the heck we were so bothered about! Sally
I'm a bit confused. I'm having some pains like Jon and that I assume will get better as the tissues heal. Jo, what do you mean about the pain becoming chronic? And taking pain meds will prevent this? @Josephine: (not sure if this is the correct way to tag)
Thanks,
Sally
This may be a matter of semantics.
Although no one has officially advised against PT or recommended anyone to not have PT, I sense that Dingbat is concerned that some people on this forum who would really benefit from PT (wasted muscles, etc.) may not pursue it if they read not to worry about...
Hi Jon,
I had my Rt THR 8 weeks ago. The pain in the butt is easing off, but I still feel in. If I've done a lot during the day, when I sit in the evening the pain is worse in the left cheek. I think our bodies have a lot of readjusting to do after the surgery.
At my last visit with my...
Thanks for the advice George! I'll look into getting the PT foam roller.
Even though I'm doing quite well - able to walk on my own without a limp, the continuing leg pain is discouraging. My bad hip had my leg hurting for years and years and I guess in the back of my mind I'm afraid the pain...
