    6 Weeks and Counting

Thought I'd give you all an update on my recovery. I'm now 3 1/2 months post op. We have traveled to our winter home in Florida - surrounded by golf courses, flat ground to walk on, and my wonderful aerobic and floor pilates team. We've been here now for 3 weeks. I've played 3 rounds of 9...

    Any golfers out there??

Stan I just played my first round of 9!!! I'm 14 weeks postop. Planning to play all of this "smart". Took and used the cart. I have an "accommodation" tag so I'm allowed to drive my cart onto the 9 holes courses. On the hilly holes, I did drive the cart up to my ball, but also enjoyed...

    Any golfers out there??

Hi Stan.. I love to golf - we are snow birds who live in The Villages in Florida - Golf Nirvana. I'm 13 weeks Post-op. My ortho doc released me to golf at 8 weeks, but I knew I wasn't ready. My IT Band has been slow to come back.. I started back with simple chipping and putting. I did go to...

    THR Recovery Blues

Viv.. congrats on the walking and muscle building. It does take time.. some days I feel as though I've taken a big step forward, others backward... I'm still dealing with my IT band.. which affects everything else... so if it's not the neck and shoulders, it's going to be something else...

    THR Recovery Blues

Viv... Sounds like a solid plan of action. I like PT and pilates as they are both orchestrated by professionals, so I know I'm not going to hurt myself. It does take time to build up those muscles after being quiet for so long... Go get em'...

    Introduction and my recovery

The IT Band will probably be the last thing to finally let go. Mine is still very, very tight. Interesting how our therapy recommendations are so different. My ortho doc doesn't want me doing any "clam" exercises as my greater trochanter area need to heal. And when I walk great distances...

    THR Recovery Blues

Viv.. I haven't ventured into the bath yet.. Good for you... as for the aching all over, I would bet it's just your muscles and tendons getting used to more activity each day. I spent a good part of Saturday with my hubbie walking IKEA.. huge warehouse - all cement floors. We walked for more...

    Introduction and my recovery

Good to hear from you. Our sympathy on the loss of you sil... tough for everyone - especially her child. Sounds as though you are breezing through PT and recovery... good for you! I would think you'll make your 10/18 return to work with time to spare - which would be fun. There is definitely...

    Car Accident

B-Ma Good grief I think you were fortunate not to have been more seriously hurt. Tough enough to have hip issues without this. Funny that this is the one thing I'm always worried about - falling or having a car accident... Do take care... follow those doctor's orders and keep us up to date.

    6 Weeks and Counting

Reante - I'm so looking forward to getting back on the reformer today. I don't own a reformer, but work out at a studio. My instructor won't let me back into class until we do a private session, which makes perfect sense. That's today! Must say that I'm very sore today.. and had to grab my...

I Did the Stairs!!! Frozen IT Band

I got up my courage yesterday and went to the driving range. I'm a rabid golfer.. not a great golfer, mind you, but rabid. I haven't picked up a club to play since early June. I've been practicing my swing in the driveway for about a week, no issues.. so what the heck. I think I hit about 25...

    THR Recovery Blues

Viv... You are walking up and down stairs??? I still cannot do that and it's been 8 weeks. It's the one thing I still cannot do - go up without hoisting myself up... so you see, each of us recovers differently... Getting off the big drugs and moving to what I call my cocktail of advil and...

    life :(

Pamela I'm 8 weeks out and I'd have a tough time if I had to return to work. I'm wondering if the pain is your muscles rather than the hip and bone. I keep checking with my PT guy to make sure the pain I feel is in the muscles - and it is... The only way to get rid of the pain is to walk...

I Did the Stairs!!! Frozen IT Band

Why, yes, Andy I did... lol. I enjoy my G&T each night.. It's actually the lime on the thigh that does the trick... I am making some progress with the IT band. They are now doing deep tissue massage that KILLS, but the results are helping. I've engaged my husband as my human cane so I can...

    Just over one week THR

Nana.. I would reconsider taking your pain meds when you want to sleep. You need them during the first weeks of recovery. I'm now 7 weeks out, but I took mine for at least 4 weeks in decreasing doses. They gave me the chance to sleep for at least 4 hours each night. Don't forget to do your...

    6 Weeks and Counting

Hi Jamie.. Yes I did add my signature. Not sure if my photo ever uploaded or not. I'm making great forward progress. While my IT band is still pesky, I'm walking inside the house without my cane each day until night when I seem to tire and start walking like a penguin... PT guy doesn't want...

    Introduction and my recovery

Hi Dawn.. I'm just catching up with this wonderful group. I'm up in Atkinson, NH had my surgery at St. Joe's in Nashua. Fabulous group of surgeons and PT folk. I was definitely sleep deprived for at least the first 3 to 4 weeks. I got used to taking my Vicodin at 8pm (500mg), then taking...

Two years and update re psoas

Gavin - Wonderful to know that 2 years out you are doing well!!! I LOVE pilates. I do both reformer and floor versions. I would urge anyone who is new to pilates to make sure their trainer is certified. You can get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. My PT group urged me to do pilates...

Home and happy with hip No. 2

Happy Feet... Glad you have made it home. I would imagine it does make it a bit easier to know what is ahead. Sleeping on your back... Hated that.. Loved the night I could roll over. I cannot have preop meds because I have horribly low blood pressure.. so I went into the OR wide awake too...
