Pushing to gain ROM - don't do it - have patience!

I hope my story will help give hope to all of you who aren't quite getting the ROM or being able to do the things that so many others can early on. Today I am at almost 6 months post TKR, and I rode 64½ miles on my bike in the Tour de Cure for Diabetes, and guess what, it was all good...

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

I want to thank Jamie for pointing out to me my years gone by threads, I didn't realize you could re-read them, yes that was a splash of cold water in my face! In some ways this one is worse and in some ways better. Thanks again for pointing that out!

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

This is my 3rd TKR and yes, I know they are all different but this one is the worst, I still only have 95-100 degrees ROM and though the swelling in the knee seems to be going down slightly I continue to have severe pitting edema in the shin/ankle/foot. I work at a desk so I try to get up...

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

Thank you, yes I had to go back to work because I had no more sick time left as I had used it all with my revision in the same year. I do get up and walk around a lot but you are absolutely right, the sitting at the desk and all that makes my knee swell more than walking does. I have some ice...

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

Hi all, this is my 3rd time around, and I'm having the hardest time with the bending. Swelling is definitely more than other ones, and Ive read all the articles, but my specific question is this: My doc said he doesn't believe in PT and the "forcing" the therapist do (yes this is good) and...

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

Thank you, those were my thoughts as well and I didn't know that it would ooze even through the glue, good info! It is scary because all knees react differently even within the same person. Too bad they can't just put you on prednisone or something to "calm" it down.....

    TKR Edema at 10 weeks?

After reading everything once again and doing my assessment (I am an RN but you know who doing an assessment on yourself is quite biased) I am pretty certain it's not a blood clot, but that there is major swelling and heat in the capsule. No fever, no streaks, no drainage. However drainage...

Thank you for the comments, much appreciated! Newly bionic I can relate to you, as well. You probably understand the point where your old knee starting hurting more than the new TKR? At 8 weeks now that is the case, the tibia pain is bad but I can honestly say that my new knee hurts less...

2016 August Hot Shots - Are you having knee surgery in August?

On the "other side" now, again. I am at post surgery day 6, and doing much better than the first time. I am a bit depressed with the horrible weather we are having (high heat and humidity) and not being able to go outside and get some fresh air. One day at a time....

Revision TKR Im baaackkk time for a TKR revision

Josephine I agree with you, and I thank god I have good health insurance because in addition to pain and suffering, the cost and risk of these procedures is extremely high. My original OS was a highly esteemed OS in the metropolitan DC area (VA) My mistake was not insisting on a second opinion...

Revision TKR Im baaackkk time for a TKR revision

Well never give up....I was told in 2010 with all my sports injuries (9 knee surgeries and 3 spinal fusions) that I should chose one knee to do and the other would follow in a few months, both were bad bad bad. I chose Left. Through all the rehab I had more pain than expected (the doc said...

TKR Nanners adventure to the other side

I had severe pain in the muscle where it inserts into the knee for about a year whenver I really exerted myself or sat too long. I also still sometimes get pain in the quad that is definitely different than any other muscle pain I have had. I believe part of the pain in quad could be from the...

TKR 18 months out, question related to pain and stiffness

Tried a cortisone injection into the soft tissue NOT the knee capsule due to risk of infection. He gave me the cortisone 3 weeks ago and it was a miracle! No pain or stiffness now, AND more ROM too! It's a miracle!

    TKR Stiffness 7 Months Out

I was skiing and cycling 50+ miles and still had crazy pain mostly related to the stiffness! It actually got slightly better at 12 months, at 18 months I decided enough was enough, went back in and he read me his notes from my 10 month visit where I complained of major stiffness and he...

TKR 18 months out, question related to pain and stiffness

Thank you so much for your reply. My pain "where the muscle inserts" is at the very top of the B grid, right where the line is (where my vastus medialis inserts) I also never got that muscle back entirely, I had issues right after surgery with not being able to do leg lifts and questioned it...
