TKR Almost two years with tkr

My insurance would have liked for me to have gone home the same day. I live alone and can’t fathom it. I ended up staying two nights. I went home same day twice when I had my ankles fused, so honestly it was nice to have the extra time. I’m glad that you had your husband to help you!

TKR Almost two years with tkr

Thank you so much for these words of encouragement! I know it’s comparing apples to oranges, but with my ankle fusion I was done with the prescription pain meds after a few weeks. And even though there was pain, it wasn’t like this, which felt like two weeks of “first day” pain. I know the...

TKR Almost two years with tkr

This is such a great way to look at it!!! I chose to move forward with this precisely because my pain was getting worse and it was hindering my ability to enjoy life. I went for my post-op appointment today and my surgeon said that everything looks great. He also told me that if I am very tired...

TKR Almost two years with tkr

Don’t sugar-coat it for me…I am 12 days out from my surgery. Are you saying that the pain is going to continue to be as bad as it is right now for at least another six weeks? :bawl: My pain is at a 2 on a good hour. Sometimes even less if I don’t move at all. Otherwise, it’s at a 4 to 6 most...

    TKR Back Again

I hope she can figure something out with this as well, but please keep in mind that not all of us have that luxury.

    TKR Back Again

I’m glad you fought it. There are plenty of studies that indicate that a higher BMI does not necessarily correlate with worse outcomes.

    TKR Back Again

Do those screws bother you? I had both of my ankles fused (almost 20 years apart) and for my most recent one, they had to remove the hardware due to pain. I still have the titanium screws somewhere and am determined to make earrings out of them…:heehee:

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

Good plan. I am desperately trying to figure out a set-up for when I start working again. I have co-workers who set up their workspace in bed (not because they’re ill in any way), but I don’t think I would be the most skilled at it myself. :banghead:

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

Thank you so much. I guess I just look at this bottle of pills that runs out in five days and I just kind of doubt that the pain will be that far along by then. I miss ibuprofen!!!

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

I do get up and walk around my (very small) apartment several times a day. Not “walk around” per se, but go to the bathroom and then to the kitchen/living room. I have started to wonder if I am sitting up for too long a period of time (20 or 30 minutes, if I’m eating.) EDIT: fixed the typo. No...

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

I definitely agree about wishing I knew when the pain would decrease. Not having any point of reference does make it more difficult. I wish I could take ibuprofen, but obviously that doesn’t work with the blood thinners. We will get through this…somehow. I am trying to take it one day at a...

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

Is the second time around better or worse? Is it easier when you know what to expect?

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

I get stressed out because I can’t go back to work if I am on any type of narcotics at all…then the anxiety kicks in like a runaway train and I go from zero to “I’m gonna be homeless!!!” in 30 seconds flat… (I try to laugh at my anxiety when I can…it helps to challenge it in my head…so please...

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

Interesting…I know that when I was in the hospital, the times when I had morphine on board were better than when it was just the oxy. I will definitely keep that in mind!

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

I am definitely icing and elevating. Had my second in-home PT today and I thought he was going to push me but when he saw I was struggling, he told me no more exercise today. (Don’t have to ask me twice!!!!!!!!) I guess it’s that I look at the bottom of the bottle of pain pills and it feels...

    TKR Day 6 post-op LTKR

I am discouraged, because I don’t feel like there has been any substantial decrease in my pain. It doesn’t hurt more than it did…it doesn’t hurt in any different way than it did…but it doesn’t feel better in any substantial way. Like I don’t even dare try to take 5mg of the Oxy instead of 10...

    Bilateral TKR Jeaniesknees. Bilateral

I can’t get to the exact date without navigating away from this page and losing my pending post (admitting my ignorance of computer stuff is humbling…) but did you say that you are about five weeks out? I take emergency calls, so I am pretty sure I can’t return to work until I am off narcotics...

TKR Ready to do this! Left TKR scheduled for May 4.

Thank you for the well wishes! If my recovery time is longer than expected, I can wait for FMLA next year. I have no idea whether there needs to be a full 12 months before you’re eligible for another 12 weeks. Honestly, I have printed out a dozen pages of work policies and am still hella...

TKR Ready to do this! Left TKR scheduled for May 4.

Is there a thread somewhere to vent about our insurance companies? My insurance vets surgeries through a third party. Surgery is (allegedly) next Tuesday, but it just got denied for being a “custom” knee replacement that’s considered “experimental”. The sainted admin at my doctor’s office was...
