I am now 15 months post TKR, and I still have constant trouble. The bend in my knee stops at about 90 degrees, and it is like a cement block trying to bend it any further. I can walk for several miles, but if I walk more than that, it becomes even stiffer and painful. I recently went to a gym...
I also had a very difficult recovery from my February 2020 TKR. I also thought I would be in a wheelchair the rest of my life. I even thought perhaps I would have the leg amputated just to stop being in pain. That's how desperate and depressed I was. But I can now take long walks over a mile...
Thanks Fran55. This is definitely slow, and there are days when I feel like I'm going backward instead of forward. If I do a teeny bit too much, my knee knows it. I still get stiffness and some swelling, although nowhere near as much as before.
I am now between 7 and 8 months post-op with a TKR. It has been a very trying and difficult recovery from day 1. Even now, I suffer with swelling if I do a tad too much, and I still have some sleepless nights from the discomfort. I can go for a walk of one mile, but if I go longer than that, I...
@Celle Thank you for the link about heel slides. I'm printing that out and will start doing them this way. @NewToMe your recovery sounds like mine. Slow going. And I'm not a patient person.
Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. It really does help to know that others have had the same issues I've had. I did see the surgeon yesterday, and he does not suggest any surgery due to the metal sensitivity. I'm mildly sensitive to three metals, including nickel, but he feels it is not...
@sistersinhim, I've had nothing but problems actually. Up until last week, I could walk a very short distance, and my knee would immediately swell and stiffen. The pain I've had for five months is incredible. Then suddenly last week, I began having some good days. I can walk a little more...
Interesting @lovetocookandsew . I will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow morning to see what his opinion is on the matter. I have a feeling that since it is listed as a "mild sensitivity" rather than "moderate" or "high," he may advise me to wait.
Just an update...I am now five months post op, and I feel like I am beginning to turn a corner. I can finally walk a little bit more without having a ton of swelling and pain. This is a big step forward from a month ago. I did take a Metal LTT (metal sensitivity test), and it showed I have...
Just an update....I had blood work that showed no indication of an infection. YAY! The next step is to see if I have a metal sensitivity. I am not getting an MUA because there are times when I can bend my knee to 115. Other days, it's at 90. But the doctor does not suggest an MUA...
Doodlebug60: I'm glad to hear your recovery is going well. I am jealous! I am eliminating PT and adding the pool tomorrow so I am hoping better days are ahead. Boy, this is rough.
Thanks everyone. I did see my doctor. Since restarting PT 2 weeks ago, my life has been hell - pain, stiffness, and swelling. The doctor sent me for blood work to see if there is an infection. Those results were fine. He may have me get tested for metal sensitivities. I was in a car...
I am going through the same things as you. My right TKR was February 17. I still cannot take a walk or ride a bike or do anything without causing a lot of pain, stiffness, and inflammation. It is very depressing. I have now stopped all physical therapy, as it only seems to aggravate it and...
@Rockgirl4 Thanks. Very interesting. I will be seeing my doctor in three days, and I don't know what to do if he advises an MUA. I am in constant pain from swelling and stiffness so perhaps there really is scar tissue in there. If I do nothing, I don't think it will just get better. But if...
I'm four months out and sleep like a baby now! That first couple of months is rough on the sleep! I heard that over and over from others with experience. I thought sleeping would never get better, but it did. Hang in there.
Thanks for the information and advice. One thing I didn't mention but might make sense to someone is that along with the stiffness and pain, it always feels like I have a boa constrictor around my knee. Is that normal? Could this be indicative of scar tissue?
I've read the posts but have to read the articles. My surgery date was Feb. 17, 2020, on my right knee. I had PT 3 times a week for quite a while, and then the doctor pulled me off PT for a month to see if that helped. It helped for a few weeks with the pain, but then it returned. I recently...
I am four months post-op this past week, and I am still suffering with swelling and pain. I cannot take walks at all. I tried to walk on an outdoor track yesterday, and I pushed through 1/2 mile with pain. As the day wore on, the swelling and pain increased. This morning, I could hardly...
