    THR Tehdarwinator in recovery

Just a two week follow up: I’m doing great! I haven’t needed a pain pill for five days, which is more than I could say before the surgery. It isn’t pretty, but I can move around pretty quickly with my walker. As everyone reassured me, the restrictions haven’t been a problem. I still have a bad...

    THR Tehdarwinator in recovery

If you please, the origin of your screen name? Do you have a cat named Darwin?.... Actually, we had a dog named Darwin and he used to hunt the squirrels in our backyard (he never caught any) with the tenacity of the Terminator. I had a pretty good night. I’m getting handy with my dressing...

    THR Tehdarwinator in recovery

Hi guys, I’m back home and working on my recovery! I was the one with free-floating anxiety pre-op. It was so bad right before my surgery that my blood pressure was too high for surgery. They gave me a little versed and that at least brought my bp down to a feasible level. I had a knee...

THR What about hip dislocation after a posterior hip replacement?

You guys are great! I seem to be moving on from my dislocation fear to general free-floating anxiety. Tomorrow is the big day and I can’t wait to be post-surgery. My hip kept me awake half the night, so at least I am 100% sure that this is the right course of action.

THR What about hip dislocation after a posterior hip replacement?

My thanks to all of you for your encouraging words! I have a great deal of confidence in my surgeon (he has a lot of satisfied customers around town) and I'm lucky enough to have a physical therapy group in town that doesn't believe that inducing pain is a necessary part of the healing process...

THR What about hip dislocation after a posterior hip replacement?

I'm having my right hip replaced next week with a posterior approach. I have read horror stories about hip dislocation from bending too much. My doctor mentioned dislocation being a possible complication, but he didn't seem too worried about it. He said I would feel it in the joint if I bent too...

Hi everyone! I'm having my right hip replaced on July 22. This is my first one!

TKR Made it to the other side

Triumph! I managed to get up from bed this morning all by myself. Two things made this possible: I got a good night’s sleep thanks to the muscle relaxant, and I was able to bend my surgery leg enough to put my foot flat on the floor. That was a biggie. :yahoo: I have my first PT appointment...

TKR Made it to the other side

Thank you for the encouraging words! I am unfortunately one of those Type A folks, so the loss of control is discouraging. I was counting on having pain, but I didn’t take into account the dreaded log leg issue. I have a very gentle set of exercises to do and that leg simply won’t move by...

TKR Made it to the other side

Well, I had my LTKR on December 18th. I got to go home the next day but I had a rough night in the hospital and again when I came home. I was expecting the knee pain but after I got home, my whole leg from thigh to ankle was having constant muscle spasms. Oddly enough, the spasms themselves...

Is an ice machine worth it?

Thank you so much for your feedback! I've used the frozen peas trick in the past, but they seem to slide off and warm up so quickly. If it was just this one surgery, I would probably go that way, along with alcohol ice packs. However, since I will be having three surgeries over the next year and...

Is an ice machine worth it?

I have been reading good things about ice machines here and elsewhere. However, I can't find anyplace local to borrow or rent one. I have a TKR coming up in a month and my other knee and one hip are also bone-on-bone and headed for replacement as well. Assuming that I can afford it, would it be...

2019 December Supernovas - Are you having knee surgery in December?

Hi all, I've just been scheduled for a left TKR on December 18. This came about rather suddenly (although I should have seen it coming, I suppose). I am so glad to find a group in the same circumstances! The next six weeks are going to be major learning experience.
