THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

1 year anniversary for the Left Hip and 3 month for the right hip. Wow - a year ago I was terrified.... I am now back walking my dogs every day, building up the strength. The right hip replacement was a breeze, a very different experience compared to the left hip. My 3 month old hip is all...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Day 27 The hip is progressing well, but have been suffering from a stomach upset for the past 10 days or so. I am not sure what has/is causing the nausea, but it could be some other bug that I picked up. My partner had a bit of an ichy stomach for several weeks, appeared to have recovered and...

Sounds like great progress is being made.

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Day 17 Whilst time is needed to repair and get my hip muscles working properly, this time, without the leg length discrepancy issue, it seems to be so much easier. I saw the physio yesterday, who gave me some exercises that I didn't have last time, though I plan to be careful with them, as I...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Day 8 As instructed, and as last time, I took my bandage off two days ago. The incision iching lasted for a couple of days but seems to have stopped now. The incision is looking good, with some yellow bruising around it, but that won't take long to go. I am still amazed at how fast the skin...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Day 5 The recovery pain seemed so much more pronounced than last time, though maybe it's just my memory. Any little movement other than completely straight, hurt, getting in and out of bed an exhorstive task. My partner was putting on and taking off my socks and shoes, but just lifting my foot...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Lovely feedback. The hospital phoned to check on me today and I raised this very point. The lady who called, it will come, just make sure you move initially, don't do activities that hurt and don't worry about it.......

Thanks for the feedback on this, there is alot of pressure to be doing exercises, I certainly haven't felt like it today and decided to take it easy. Good information about bridges - thanks.

    THR SurreyGirls's 2nd THR Journey

oh dear. I was told the Op Pre med opioid can impact blood pressure, brings it down. My blood pressure went up after the Op, so it was ok for me to take another one, that actually did bring my bp down to the right level, though I took it for the pain not the blood pressure.

18 patients - oh my goodness, really tough for Kelly, it's just not possible to manage properly with that number. With staff shortages it's really hard for nurses.

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

It was really useful reading through these. I am sitting here thinking of the physio list of exercises and just think, yesh, I am in pain, I have walked a bit and will continue to get up and have a little wonder around the house, but the idea of trying to get my abductors to work, just doesn't...

    THR Huge Leg Length Discrepancy

Hi. I had my left hip done in Jan this year and had about 2.5 to 3cm difference - drove me crazy. I really struggled to understand this. There are multiple reasons for it, there is a perceived and an actual leg length difference. Perceived is due to pelvic tilt (oblique or others), swelling...

Oh my sepsis - that must have been very tough and scary for everyone. Sounds like Laura has had a very tough time. I hope she and her little one recovers quickly and are very happy.

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Day Two. Saturday seems an unusual day to have an operation, so set off arriving at 7am and in the theatre by 11am and out back in my room by 1pm. The nurses at the hospital were brilliant, kind, compassionate, responsive and very patient, though I did wonder given it was the weekend so the...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Would I do anything different this time? Good question. My surgery is tomorrow. I am anxious, but considerably less anxious than I was the first time round, when I seemed to be panicing about anything and everything, stressing my partner out with my stress. It didn't help that I tested...

    THR SurreyGirls's 2nd THR Journey

For my first hip back in Jan, I took 8 weeks off work, then had a phased return that last for some time. Even though I was back at work, I was still struggling with tiredness, having to sleep on my back (very badly, almost insomina) and just generally low energy that took a long time to get...

    THR Spongebob's Recovery Journey

I am 8.5 months and experience something similar, though I don't get stabbing pain, it's more like tight hip flexors. I have spoken to two surgeons about it, neither were concerned and reminded me that recovery takes time. My hip flexors also start to ache when I have walked a while - it's like...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Post-Op 8.5 Months Time has moved on. Unfortunately, my right hip is bad such that I have scheduled a replacement for it in 8 days time. Since I last posted, my ability to be able to walk distances has decreased considerably, such that in the past month or so, I have stopped walking my dogs...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

Six month anniversary!! I have been using a manufactured shoe lift now for about 5 weeks. Within 10 days of using the lift, the night pain disappeared in my non operated hip and I could start walking for longer periods of time. The shoe lift has made an enormous difference such that I have been...

THR An Opportunity to Enjoy Life Again

4.5 Month Anniversary. The operated leg is healing very nicely , with the odd ache in the thigh when walking and around the incision. I still stiffen up when I have sat to long, but overall its all going in the right direction. My unoperated leg is a different story, ok during the day, but in...
