Yes, I had out patient 10/28 and it was a very good experience for me. I had surgery at 7 and was home by noon. My Dr gave me scripts for all my meds a couple of weeks b4 surgery so I had everything set up. I really can't say anything negative about it. I prefer being in my own environment...
Yes, I had out- patient TKR in October and I was not intubated. I had a femoral nerve block and drugs that knocked me out so I don't remember a thing except waking up in recovery. Surgery at 7:00 and home by noon.
Sounds like you are doing great.....I'm 6 months out on 4/28 and this describes my knee exactly. I'm fortunate in that I've never had clunking or clicking but everything else could be my status at 6 months. The arthritic pain is gone and I can function without always being aware of the knee...
As others have said all normal. My sleep didn't improve until around 8 weeks but everyone is different. It's just so hard to get comfortable in those first weeks. Hang in there it will get better!
I keep hearing about clicking and crunching but I guess I am one of the lucky one as I've never experienced it. I'm about the same time frame as you, surgery 10/28. Hopefully, those noises settle down as I hear they do over time.
Yes the time flies by....and even during recovery in retrospect the last 4 months have gone fast and I am fast approaching a big trip to Israel in 2 weeks. Travel was a big part of my motivation for getting TKR. It is worth all those early nights of not getting comfortable to sleep which was...
That is crazy to me that he had you go thru all the pre-op. I would have thought if he required you to lose those 20lb he would not have scheduled the surgery until the requirement was met. So sorry I can only imagine the frustration.
Glad you are home and pain is under control. I find the nights are never good in the hospital. Always short of help it seems. I must say this was an advantage to out-patient surgery for me. Much more comfortable in my own home/bed and in control of my meds. Not for everyone but was great...
Just read LD of Michigan....mine was different as I didn't have a cath in place. Whatever was used for the block just wore off on day 3. These surgeons seem to all use different protocols for everything.
Mine was done pre-surgery right before I was taken back to OR. The anesthesiologist came in and explained what he was going to do. He told me he would give me some 'happy juice' before. All I remember was them bringing the ultrasound in and giving me something in my IV. I was awake but don't...
Yes, I concluded Tampa General and yes a great hospital. I used Dr from Florida Medical and was at Advent. Odd about the no symptom UTI as I had one about a year ago and routine urinalysis detected it. Antibiotics and it was gone in 7 days so I'm sure all will be well for 3/3.
It's normal to be nervous but I suspect you will do great and like most of us get your life back. There seem to be a lot of different protocols for this surgery. I had general anesthesia and a femoral nerve block administered in the upper thigh area. No spinal. I am 5' 7" and weighed 234 at...
Slow but steady progress is the way it goes. As others have said the first few weeks are pretty miserable and yes you wonder if it will ever get better. I'm here at 16 weeks to tell you it does. Just takes more time that most of us thought going into it.
16 weeks and still icing most nights.
Finally, most days I hardly think about it. Never thought I would get to that point about week 8, but a lot of improvement in the few weeks. Ended my PT 2 weeks ago when I saw my Dr as well. A slow process for sure!
For me the pain (controlled with oxy/tylenol) eased up about 3-4 weeks but continued with Tylenol and Tramadol at night for a couple more weeks. Thankfully, I didn't experience nausea but always made sure I ate something before the meds. I kept crackers by my bed at night so I didn't have to...
Yesterday was my last formal PT and today I had my 3 mo visit with the OS. It's been a long haul and I know I'm not done but glad to be officially on just normal activity and I will continue gentle stretching, bicycle, pool and lots of walking which doesn't seem to bother me at all. I continue...
Not many of us are prepared for the long road to recovery but it does get better every week with the first 2 being the worst for me! Hang in there and know there is light on the horizon but it doesn't come overnight.
