    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hello all! Four months post THR, and all is well. I did miss out on my Bike NYC plans in May; it was raining and cold and we decided not to go. However, I have been riding and walking a great deal and I feel great. I also swim and take yoga. I am very thankful to be able to continue these...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hi! Crazy busy with work and life, but excellent. At three months post op I am happy to report that I am pain free. I have some slight numbness around the scar, but I really don't care about that. I also still have a little less stamina than before - but I think that will come back. Finally, I...

    THR Here we go again

@Ruamac, It is great to hear from you. What a strange run of symptoms, and thankfully you are moving beyond them. Welcome back, and it is great to hear of your progress.

THR When can I get back to the gym?<

Gosh your planned ride sounds wonderful - do it next year! One thing I am finding is that cycling is actually pretty easy on my hip, and I am sure you'll find that, too - but not "244 miles at two months" easy. Right now it is so much more important to increase activity in little tiny baby...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hello @Layla and fellow hippers. My two-month anniversary just passed and it has been blessedly uneventful. I have completed PT. I regularly walk a mile to a mile and a half, and returned to work two weeks ago. I have begun to swim :swim:and do yoga:bow:. I have no issues whatsoever with my...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hi @Layla! You are so great to check on me - thank you. The news is 98% good. I am just under seven weeks post-op. I have zero, absolutely zero, pain in or near the operated hip. I have been walking up to three miles a day, doing gentle yoga, and still waiting to swim and bike. I can go...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Great suggestions @Layla and @Eman85. Can't be too slow or too gentle with this progression. I dug up my Hanna somatics books and a yoga one for hip healthy asanas and will make them a priority this week.

    Bilateral THR Made it!!

Hello all, This thread reminded me to pull out some books. When I was pre-op and struggling to relieve my hip pain I purchased a couple of books on Hanna somatics, as well as the hip-healthy asana book mentioned here. I am taking them off the shelf to reread, as perhaps I can find ways to...

@Eman85 Thank you so much for leading me to that post. I really don't want to go there! That starts me with one idea about how not to challenge my hip.

THR Dislocation after 2 months post-op

@annie57 Oh my gosh that sounds like the worst! I was just wondering about returning to yoga and so happy I read this before absent-mindedly dropping into a squat! I hope you are recovered with no problems.

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hi all - thank you so much for your comments! I am almost five weeks out now. Yesterday I walked a mile, twice! Have still been using a cane when I am outdoors, but am probably ready to go without it - at least for short walks. @Goterp75, I hear you about being eager to ride a bike and go...

Revision THR Continuing left hip pain

Gee - so frustrating and difficult for you right now. I hope you can find better insight from a different surgeon. I've had one orthopedic surgeon tell me that my only problem was PSOAS tendinitis, while another diagnosed a torn labrum and recommended THR. I decided to throw my lot with the...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Hello Layla! Thank you for inquiring. I am doing really well. Have graduated to a cane, and am taking a couple of half-mile walks a day. I often take one painkiller at night, but not every night, and am eager to discontinue them. I did have a cold and stomach virus of some sort this week, but...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

Just thought I'd update my thread for future purposes. I am 2 1/2 weeks post right anterior THR. Went to PT for the first time at the 2-week mark, where I lost the walker and am now using a cane, although I really don't need it for short trips in the house. I take short outdoor walks with the...

Yay for you! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am back on board with taking the meds on schedule. What you say about eventually forgetting a dose and then naturally coming off the meds is similar to what my PT said about the walker - he said when you find yourself picking up and carrying the...

    THR Scarab's Recovery Thread

@Jaycey - thank you, I am so glad I asked! My physician's discharge instructions said that after day 4 I could begin to discontinue the pain meds as tolerated, and that made me think that I was perhaps using my meds for too long. I am so thankful for this forum. Otherwise, being in pain on a...

    THR Here we go again

Gosh - that sounds like a lot of activity. When you say you are puttering and tidying up, are you using your walker? That sounds strenuous to me. I think you must not be nauseous anymore, since you are now so active. Hurrah!
