    Revision TKR Motherbone's Recovery Thread

@marieltha I haven't had much news to report so I haven't posted lately, but I'm doing okay. I'm working on mobility and stamina, both of which are still challenges since I have such a deformed left knee and have to be careful not to torque the left ankle and create a new stress fracture...

    TKR Surgery over now what

@ginr I read through your thread. This is a terrible time of year for many of us. Know that we are standing by your side to support you as you make your way through it. Some thoughts which I hope are consoling: Now that you have made the first anniversary, you have surmounted the initial...

You can fall even if you haven't had your knees replaced! Don't give up.

    TKR Update

I was immobilized for two months, no bending of the knee, after my patella fractured. It was tough but I managed to figure out ways to take care of my needs in the house. I don't know what your friend's work entails but I was not allowed to bear full weight for about 6 weeks, after which it was...

    Fusion [Knee Fusion] Leg Fusion

I forgot to add that over time I was able to bring the seat back back up so I wasn't riding in a reclining position. But to get out I had to lower it again. And I always used my seatbelt.

    Fusion [Knee Fusion] Leg Fusion

My right leg was immobilized straight outward for 2 months after the patella broke. We have a several years old Volvo XC60. I moved the passenger seat all the way back and racked the seat back down. Then I backed up to the seat, slid onto it, and wiggled in like a crab. I put an old squishy...

    Knee Infection* Kurt_H's Knee Infection

@Kurt_H I think we tend to underestimate the toxic impact of anesthesia, inflammatory proteins, blood loss, opiate/pain killers, and long term antibiotics, on our brains. Mood changes, loss of attention span, sleep disturbances, and lethargy are, I think, the consequences of the massive...

    Revision TKR Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Hi everyone. Since my last post I've had Doppler studies of both legs - no clots found. A blood test for heart failure called a BNP was normal. Still have to get to the cardiologist in January. I'm still hobbling with a walker and relying heavily on a motorized wheelchair for longer...

    Revision TKR Sondrals’ Revision

I had the worst Christmas of my life last year, being immobilized with my broken kneecap and unable to go anywhere. Couldn't decorate. Couldn't visit family out of state. Then we decided to go get Vietnamese food with some friends. As the lady in the restaurant said to me on the phone when I...

Glad to hear from you! Home is always better than a hospital. Hospitals can make you sick. You got this!

Best wishes for your surgery next week! I need to have my other knee done, but things keep coming up that cause it to be delayed. Sometimes I think I'll never get the chance. So, see -- there's a Bonesmartie who is envying you right now!

    Revision TKR Motherbone's Recovery Thread

I hope everyone had as nice a Thanksgiving as we did - so much better than last year at this time!!! We went to a friend's home. I was able to bring two dishes to share. We all ate way too much. My echocardiogram was not normal and so I will have to see a cardiologist before I can proceed any...

Revision TKR Tibia break after knee revision

My patella fractured and my patello-femoral tendon ruptured three weeks after my right TKR, requiring a second urgent surgery to repair. The surgeon could not completely pull the kneecap fragments together. I had limited weight bearing and was prohibited from bending my right knee for 8...

TKR Sky Blue's recovery - both TKRs

When I was non-weight-bearing on my left ankle/foot, I had to solve the problem of how to get out of bed to get to the toilet, and I found that having a sturdy chair with arms placed sideways alongside the bed and to my right was helpful. I could grab that chair arm and leverage myself up. You...

    Revision TKR Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Well, my ankle xray showed good healing, no visible fracture lines remaining and good callus formation, and my orthopod has discharged me from his care. He did say to be extremely careful when walking until I can get this left knee straightened out because the biomechanical forces straining my...

    TKR Success story

I've had zero attention span after all of my various surgeries. Hopefully yours will gradually improve as mine did. You've had a terrible year. These losses burn themselves into our character but they don't have to control our future, so don't feel bad about talking to someone about how you...

Revision TKR Hmm. Not thrilled with the revision yet

I had inexplicable fatigue until a visit to my primary care doctor and some labs disclosed that I had significant iron deficiency anemia. If you can, see if you can have a CBC done by your PCP. You have had some major surgeries within the space of a year. You never know, your hemoglobin may...

    Revision TKR Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Today I had my re-evaluation at PT. I have made progress with range of motion in all directions at the ankle and have good basic strength with flexion, extension, and inward rotation. I have weakness when trying to evert the ankle, which PT thinks is due to the knee joint distortion, creating...

@marieltha I'm curious - do you know his reasoning for not being a fan of custom orthotics?

TKR Total Left Knee Replacement CaredFL

I was put on the CPM after my TKR last year but after 20 minutes they had to stop it because my foot went completely numb. Apparently it was aggravating swelling and circulation was compromised. I won't agree to it in the future when it's time to do my left knee.
