Congratulations! Soon you will be on the other side and will be amazed at the difference! Anxiety is absolutely normal, this is major surgery. Do you have confidence in your surgeon? Do you have some support at home for immediately after you return home? Try to be reassured in that support...
@zauberflote, I stick to campgrounds with decent ratings, my favorite is one on the Maine coast. I've never had a problem camping alone, most people I've found camping are just people who like camping, not people that bother others [emoji6]

Just thought I'd update everyone, I'm now about 4 months after right THR and 2.5 months after left THR. And last weekend I went camping! I've missed it so much this year and was so glad I was able to do it before it gets too cold (though it was cold - I could see my breath while putting up my...
I didn't do bilateral, as my surgeon doesn't do them, but did mine 6 weeks apart. I was in the hospital two nights each time, and was able to go up a full flight of stairs on my first night home. My dad followed me up the stairs and asked about my pain level and honestly it was so much less than...
@Lerwick8 sorry to hear about the swelling, hopefully that will resolve soon! Keep trusting your instincts and listening to your body [emoji122]

The week before surgery is the hardest, the pain is worse because you have to stop any meds you've been taking, and everything seems more amplified.
I had general anesthesia, they didn't even suggest spinal and I'm glad!! One minute I was talking to the anesthesiologist, the next I was waking...
What did the surgeon recommend? Are you still doing pt? I would probably talk with pt to find some gentle exercises to do to strengthen the thigh, assuming they're not recommending something different. I wouldn't be inclined to power through the pain - this is not a situation of "no pain, no...
Yes, everyone is different. I was back at work half days 5 weeks after my second THR (didn't work the 6 weeks between the first and second THR), and the full time 6 weeks after surgery. I work a desk job but didn't have the option to work from home. Doing a week of half days worked out great...
@snickers, my first THR in May was my first time in the hospital since birth, I'd never had a broken bone or any surgery and was so nervous! Fortunately I had a great surgeon and a group of really great nurses, and I hope you have a great experience as well!
But yeah, you'll still go crazy...
Also, why only one crutch? Unless your body is ready for that, it can cause you to walk awkwardly and put more stress on the joint.
Maybe let us know what your progression was leading up to now?

I agree with the others, sounds like you are way overdoing it. At 12 days postop, for both of my THRs this summer, I walked about 15 minutes at a time max. It really is easy to overdo it, I know! But please slow down and give your body time to heal!!!

@Lerwick8, thinking of you today! I hope you are able to relax some today. I'm sure you're well planned and whatever you haven't thought of will take care of itself. I was reminded yesterday, 'don't worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will worry about itself'.
Take some deep breaths and can't wait...
@Lerwick8, I don't think I've ever had sake, and yes moderation is key - not just in booze but recovery too!
Yes, the differences are amazing. I didn't have or use any TED stockings post discharge. I thought about it after my second THR this summer since I was going on an 11 hour car ride 10...
[emoji3] I had whiskey every night before - even the night before as I was given no restrictions regarding alcohol.
I had lots of people, especially at work, ask about recovery too. We're not accustomed to not knowing, I think.
And I know I'm in the minority here, but I have done pt after...
@Lerwick8, I definitely wouldn't think of yourself as having to be housebound. That would have driven me crazy! I was outside walking right away - not far, and not alone at first for sure, but still out in the sun. I would try not to focus too much on what you can or can't do after recovery -...
Congrats @snickers, and wise to start using the cane. I did that too before my first THR in May and I think it really helped, at least it helped keep me from screwing up my back in the process from limping etc! Hopefully your 3 weeks will go by quickly. Hell, I know they won't but I'll hope...
