THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

So I've just passed the 16 week post-op mark. Things continue to be really good. The clunking is diminishing, but I still get muscle/tendon sore on occasion. My activity level has returned to pre-op (post cortisone shot) levels. In fact it's increased. I'm able to go to my new (post-op) gym 3...

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

Today marks 12 weeks since my surgery. It's all good :) Sunday's bike ride was 17 miles and the only issue remains getting off afterwards. Getting on is no problem but after the ride I can't lift my operated leg high enough to clear the seat. I'm pretty sure this has more to do with MS weakness...

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

Last Thursday was the 8 week post-op mark. Sunday we went for a 16 mile bike ride with no ill effects. I am even able to swing my operated leg over the bike without thinkng about it. My gait is getting better all the time. I still have to remind myself to walk normally from time to time, but...

    THR On the other side

Yes, I had a slight fever off and on while in the hospital. It is normal and went away.

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

6 1/2 weeks post-op I went for the first bike ride of the season this morning. 10 miles and my leg is still attached at the new hip. All good! :)

    THR My new hip!

Poor gait habits become very, very ingrained. I find that I REALLY have to focus on walking normally. A big part of that is trusting that your new hip is sound. It is :) As my gait becomes more normalized a lot of the other muscle aches and pains, caused by by altered gait, have begun to...

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

@bottomshollow A point of order...The thread that was merged was not specific to my recovery, but more of a general recovery topic. Is there aplace to post general discussions related to THR recovery? Thanks, Kyle

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

Docs run the gamut from full precautions to no precautions. The goal in all cases seems to be to prevent dislocation, both current and future. Not being an OS I don't really have an opinion. I just found my docs thought process fascinating/amusing:) Sent from my iPhone using BoneSmart Forum

THR New Here, 15 Days Post-Op

Yesterday I saw my OS for my 6 week follow up. We were talking about precautions and I asked about his reduced set. His 2 main rules are no crossing the midline of your body with the operated leg and no reaching for the outside of your operated side foot, especially while seated. He said the...

Hip Resurfacing 4 month post hip resurfacing

@mald I'm glad to hear that your recovery is progressing. I'm 7 years out from my left BHR and not had a single problem with it. It's almost as if f it never happened. Hoping that yours follows the same path :) Kyle

    THR Herman's Debut! Jill's Recovery :)

FYI My OS just confirmed the "excruciating pain" info about soft tissue soreness vs. new joint problem.

I got a clean bill of health at my 6 week OS visit :) Still no reaching for outside of operated side foot and no running (not a big sacrifice!). But all other bending and stretching is good and I can get back on my bike! Kyle

    THR Herman's Debut! Jill's Recovery :)

I have had pain both high up n my butt and at other times in my groin. In my case, as it sounds in yours, it was do to over use. As @Miss Muffet said, we get to a point where we "forget" we've just had major joint replacement surgery :) This leads to over use. For me a couple of days rest...

THR Right THR but only 6 weeks and losing faith"

@Laura1979 I kept a wash cloth in my shower. I did not scrub, but would gently rub the leftover glue with the washcloth under the running water. I took about a week but it all came off. Kyle

    THR I'm home

@Justine It sounds like you're doing really well! My knee and ankle on the operated side were quite swollen for two weeks post-op. As long as it isn't discolored and or abnormally warm ice and elevation (and time) should do the trick. Kyle
