Been 6 whole months since I got my new knee!
Am much better off than I was before TKR but that isn't saying much. Am half way to where I was before I broke both legs and suspect I will be doing better than that in six more months.
TKR doesn't hurt. It gets stiff and muscles aren't strong...
I find that simply getting up every 20 minutes or so is key to avoiding stiffness but I don't have to do much. Just putting a dish in the sink or getting the mail is fine then I can relax again. As the weeks pass I want to and end up staying up longer and doing more intricate tasks. I actually...
That stinks! Hope you get an appointment soonest and it's taken care of fast. I'd rather have surgical pain than injury pain any day.
So far my original equipment knee is behaving itself but it is probably just a matter of time. Hoping doing more cycling than walking will keep it functional...
I was resigned that the top of the TKR would be numb forever too but after 3-4 months the scar started hurting and now when a dog lands on the knee it hurts! Sort of liked it before as Ginger could put her full 15 pounds on it without bothering me a bit. Maybe sensation mostly will come back...
I'm 5 months post TKR and get stiffness and little zingers if I have been busy plus to my surprise I am regaining sensation over the knee and in the scar and the scar can now hurt. Very tired of the plastic wrap at night but it still helps.
Rather than focus on stiffness and little annoying...
It does and unless it is written down one forgets how hard things started out.
I remember I was able to do one extra thing a day, other than keeping clean and feeding myself. Well Tuesday I took the dogs for a couple of short walks, went to movie/dinner plus a little grocery shopping which...
Up and down is definitely the way to go. A bore but very necessary. Hoping my ups are lasting longer these days as I regain some stamina and interest in projects.
Well it's been 5 months now.
All good. I have lost my fear my knee is going to break when riding my tricycle, am trying for those...
My weirdo knee decided I could sleep on my side if elevated on pillows. And TKR was the bottom leg! Sure looked odd but I slept okay twisted up like a pretzel. I would try new positions and move once knee got uncomfortable. After a while it decided pillows were bad and I had to stop putting it...
I wonder how big that piece of irritating tissue was? Glad you could drive after that MWOA!
Long ago I did the same thing on my forearm. Had strained it and it didn't get better for months. DH accidently gave it a karate chop gesturing while talking and after the few seconds of agony the pain...
I ice as needed. Not only did I not get relief from icing or even feel like I needed to ice, it was uncomfortable. Nearly 5 months out here and this started about about 3.5 months I think.
This week summer finally arrived and the first few days are really hard on me so I've been icing to cool off!
I backed off doing long walks just for exercise as I try to walk too fast and my striding and gait suffer so my back starts to hurt and I start rolling rather than striding straight. When my back and legs hurt before surgeries happened I switched to hiking where one gets loads of exercise...
I still get exhausted after PT and it has been 4 months! Good tired though as it is nice my muscles can do the work because the joints can do their work. I seriously doubt I felt that way at 3 weeks post surgery though, I started the squats and bike and all that after more like 7-8 weeks out. I...
Try putting a pillow between the legs. Gives TKR leg a more stable platform if it is on top and protection from pressure if it is on the bottom. I actually put a pillow crosswise so my TKR knee had just one pillow under and between it and the leg on top.
Have you tried sleeping with pillows...
Sounds like you are having an easy recovery!
My worry about working would be that staying put and feet down is still really hard on me. I also will randomly get really tired even after 4 full months post TKR. And by tired I mean my brain no longer functions. I am seeing a glimmer of hope as I...
Sit to stand is fine for normal height chairs now but my 12" high recliner has been a challenge. It felt like I was ripping muscle standing up first few times. Now I can get out several times a day before the legs are too tired to do it. Try measuring all the seats in your home and work on using...
I had the same experience, with expert help flex and extend get better faster. It is super easy to watch others go fast but it works better to go really slowly. My therapist was massaging the exact place that was tight at the initial stretch, next stretch that spot was fine and there was another...
If you feel that the meds are staying in your esophagus then eat a little something after and be sure to take a swallow of water before you put the pills in your mouth. I thought I was good with pills but when weak and in pain I don't swallow well. I kept a tube of crackers in my bedside table...
New knee celebrated its 4 month anniversary yesterday!
Except for duration I have been doing pretty much a normal amount of activity so far as I can remember from last year that is. Walking for up to 1.4 miles and cycling is progressing nicely from 1 to 2 miles so far on the new wheels. If one...
I was always able to control pain with meds. If you have pain at night in spite of taking what the dr prescribed call and get something else. The bedtime pills were the last ones I stopped taking!
