    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

Just over 5 months post op. Everything is great except for the numbness, slight soreness and swelling from knee to thigh that I have had since surgery. I wish the swelling would go down, but I’m beginning to think it is permanent. I’ve been rolling it with a roller on the advice of my surgeon’s...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

Today is my 3 month anniversary. My hip is feeling strong. My thigh is still swollen and numb and sore to the touch near my incision. I had an ultrasound last Friday just as a precaution to rule out a blood clot. Nothing showed up, so I’m hoping everything will just settle down eventually...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

12 weeks post op. I have minimal weight bearing pain and my thigh is still numb, swollen and a little sore near my incision. Spoke to my surgeon’s office about it and they say it should improve with time, I hope so. My right thigh is 1” larger than my left because of the swelling. My flexibility...

THR Finally On The Recovery Side

@Mersada Good luck with the weight loss. I started keto/low carb/intermittent fasting in May 2018. I lost 35 pounds and have kept it off for the most part, although I have gained a few pounds in the last few months as I recovered from my staph infection. I lost so much weight when I was in the...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Layla Thank you very much for this information! I will try the breathing exercise. The swelling is a bummer because it is uncomfortable (plus it makes my pants tighter on the one side!).I really appreciate this info!

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

10 weeks post surgery update. All is well. My only complaint is the numbness and swelling on my thigh near my scar. It hasn’t gotten any better. I will just give it more time. I’m walking fine. I went to my first body pump class (weightlifting to music) yesterday. First time since the gyms...

THR Mid lateral thigh pain during weight bearing

@Veloflute I had the same problem after my LTHR in 2014. It was debilitating for many months. My surgeon also made me too long on that side. It was always awkward to walk. I began to compensate for the pain by walking differently, kind of throwing my pelvis forward when I walked. I still have...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Layla I sit in a recliner with my feet up. They aren’t above my heart, but at least they are out in front of me. I hope that helps a little. I haven’t been icing at all, so I am going to start icing again to see if that helps. Thank you!

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

Finally went back to the gym today. I’ve been away from it since November 2020 when I got sick with a staph blood infection. I have been lifting light weights at home since March, but 7 months is the longest I have gone without going to the gym. I just did some light weights and walked on the...

THR Questions for people recovering alone

@Puggles I had help after my THR. but I was able to put on the TED socks with the sock helper device by myself. It wasn’t easy and it took a long time, but I did it. Taking them off was a little bit harder, but I used my reacher and just inched them down by grabbing the top of the stocking with...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Mersada I think you’re right about thinking we are recovered and then our body lets us know otherwise. I have had such a good recovery that whenever something seems off, it takes me by surprise!

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Layla Thanks for the article. I am feeling even better today. I got my Covid shot last Monday and my friend suggested possibly I was having some side effects from it. That hadn’t occurred to me, but my energy is back today, so maybe that was the problem all along.

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Hippielife Thanks for the recommendation. I got the cortisone shot in my knee two days ago and I have been wearing a knee brace. It helps a lot. I will try the icing at night when I’m watching TV. I haven't done that yet.

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@Layla I have a question for the admin team or anyone who might know. I went clothes shopping today. I was in and out of stores and dressing rooms and I found myself getting very tired and even out of breath. I had to sit down a few times, which isn’t like me. I’m not sure if it is common to...

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

8 week update: My hip is doing fantastic. I am not seeing the daily big improvements that I saw in the beginning, but will suddenly realize I can do something I couldn’t do a few days ago. Still a small amount of surgical pain around my scar and some numbness and swelling, but I can walk without...

Hip Infection* THR Take Two, 2.5 years later

@Elsinore I asked after my recent RTHR. He told me to wait at least 6 weeks and not to fall. LOL I plan on waiting a few more weeks, though. I rode a lot after my LTHR in 2014 and I even fell once at 5 years post op. It wasn’t a problem, thank God.

    THR Debbie’s New Right Hip

@DA32561 I‘m so glad my little journal has helped you! That’s what I love about this site. Today I am 7 weeks post op. Every day I see small improvements. My range of motion is getting better. I can almost do a figure 4 now. As I have previously written, I have been dealt a double whammy, as I...
