Ice packs. I have found the cheap and cheerful ones from Amazon fine. Mine have seen me through my first TKR, the current hip revision, and I don’t doubt it will do the next knee and hip.
A long dressing stick.
A neck bag for carry things when on crutches.
A small flask. I use it...
@Layla - thank you. To be honest with you it wasn’t a surprise. My Rheumatologist told me last year the left knee was worse than the right, so it’s been on the cards for a while. Last time I had the hip revised 15 years or so ago, they offered to do the other hip, but it was too soon.
I am at...
Think the knee is just finished. It’s giving way when I walk, which is hindering trying to move the hip without crutches.
I am working on doing some small lifting from the knee. I can already get it about an inch. I think gentle, regular exercising is the way forward
Right hip very painful. It...
Well seen the next Surgeon today. He was not impressed with the hospital dragging me in, when the whole thing could have been combined with my post op check.
He is going to talk to the hip man and they are going to get a proper battle plan in place.
Going to have a comprehensive set of X-Rays...
Better. Only woke up once last night which is a first. The side effects are abating, particularly the numbness.
Getting better at walking on sticks in the house.
Have been walking outside about 200 yards on crutches. It’s wet a miserable today, so am dodging it.
Slightly concerned that some...
Although I live alone I have been very fortunate in having people who have stayed with me for at least 5 days post op. They were invaluable.
You do have a legal entitlement to 6 weeks of free post op care in the U.K. talk to the OT. I have people coming in twice a day to help me wash and dress...
Well I have finished the anticoagulants. Thank goodnes.
Just had a bit of a shock though. I fell over. My crutch went down one step. .
I was about 2 feet from my bed, and fell onto all fours. I managed to crawl and hoik myself onto my feet using the bed and dressing table.
My artificial knee...
Pain I can live with I am used to it. Although I am hardly needing any pain relief now. It’s the slow pace of recovery that’s frustrating me. At this stage with the knee replacement I could walk round the house with one stick, if not none.
At 4 weeks post op, I would expect to be taking some...
Well 4 weeks today from the second revision.
In some ways going well, in others not at all.
Can wash and dress myself and doing a little round the house.
Can walk about 200 yards with crutches outside.
I am practicing with 2 sticks each day in the house.
Can’t manage any steps unaided...
It wasn’t the surgeon, but the GP. I doubt he had bothered to read the leaflet.
Numbness easing off but still hav3 the flushing, dry cough and a bit of back pain. I think taking it with a fatty food helped.
Still I should be grateful for the NHS.
Going to stick it out for the last 4 days...
Well after much harassment of the doc. He doesn’t think the symptoms are related. He thinks it’s more important to finish the dose. Only 4 more to go. So I will. I am not convinced he is right. He said to give it a week after finishing the course and contact them again if I still have them. I...
@Jaycey - Thank you. I am getting 1) Flushing - back and face 2) Upper back pain. 3) Tingling, slightly numb face On one side. Feeling of burning on shoulders and other bits, (I have fibromyalgia so that’s not uncommon, 4) Very slight dry cough. Generally feeling a bit rubbish.
I will take...
Thank you. I am going to do so tomorrow morning. I don’t like these side effects at all. I have got slight numbness on one side of my face, and generalised flushing. Face, back etc.
The question is do I carry on with it for the last 5 days, or are these side effects dangerous ?
Happy to have found this site.
I had my first THR in 1990 at the age of 26 - due to congenital hip dislocation and Perthes disease
Had it Revised in 2008
Re-Revised 3 weeks ago
My other joints are also going, so had a RTKR last December
On the waiting list for a left TKR, and my right hip is...
