Midfoot Arthritis - fusion and repair of partially torn tendon

I forgot to add that I couldn't use a knee scooter or an iwalk crutch because my right leg is so damaged and weak from the broken kneecap on that side. We ended up buying a go chair (electric chair) for me to get around the house on. It's been money well spent.

Midfoot Arthritis - fusion and repair of partially torn tendon

I was non weight bearing on the left foot for almost 8 weeks this summer/fall. I found that having a slightly raised toilet seat with sturdy arms was very important, allowing me to lower and raise up using just one leg. Also, oddly enough, having clothing that is a little larger sized than...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

I've been skimming my whole recovery thread in a dark celebration of the anniversary of my patella fracture (October 10, 2018). I'm much ahead of where I was one year ago at this time, though I have to admit that I lost ground with the broken ankle. I've been getting up from the wheelchair more...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

I saw my ankle doctor yesterday and I have been taken out of the boot. I slept better than I have in a long time, no feeling of having my left foot embedded in concrete. The foot still swells horribly by day's end, only to come back to something approximating normal by morning. The tendons in...

[TKR] Left leg amputee, right leg new knee

I too had a fractured kneecap post TKR and had to wear the immobilizer 24-7.

    [TKR] Pam’s TKR PO journey

Listen, @Shewolf38 - 3 weeks after my right TKR last Fall, during the 11th rep of a sit-to-stand exercise (sounds like what you have been doing) in PT, my right kneecap was pulled into pieces - FRACTURED!!!!! Why do you keep doing what everyone is telling you is too harsh for your stage of...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Oh, and at the end I actually took three short steps! Not very graceful, but definitely moved that right leg. Got to wonder how much of my difficulties are psychologically based, since we didn't do anything today except gentle stretch and range of motion for the left ankle only.

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Well, well, I got an earlier appointment at a satellite office of the PT service and I couldn't be happier because it's small, slow, the other patients there were my age or possibly a bit older, and I got full attention. I told my therapist my whole story from TKR last September through the...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

I was discharged from home PT today but could not get an appointment for outpatient PT for another 3 weeks. So I will continue practicing what I have been taught thus far until then. It will be interesting to see if I acquire some more improvement without the one on one attention of a PT. I know...

    [TKR] Steelergal's Recovery Thread^

I agree with the perspective expressed by @Carole4815. We all have to set our own goals. Personally, given my experiences, I'd be happy to be able to walk upright with a pain level of 3 or less, and to be able to climb one flight of stairs, even if I need to do it one step at a time. Recovery...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

@Jockette With my walker. I've taken a few more since then. Still a problem with my strained shoulder muscle, though. I saw my PCP today and showed her my puffy ankle. I also developed a rash over a few square inches of my shin. She says the swelling is an expectable reaction to prolonged...

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Well, I took a step today in PT. I strained my right shoulder over the weekend so I was limited in taking more because I have to lean on my walker a lot, but I was pleased. It's like a hurdle has been cleared.

@Jockette Yes it's heavy! When I get into bed I feel like I'm swinging a leg weight over the side and onto the mattress. I just got some sheepskin insoles and put one in the bottom, which does cushion my foot better and cuts down on my foot shifting around inside of it.

ankle Foot/Arch: Posterior Tibial Tendinitis (PTT)

Love the cat. When I was growing up we had a Siamese cat who lived for 16 years. Man, I hate-hate-hate having to order new athletic shoes. Trial and error over and over.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I think unconsciously I thought I'd be walking by now. I have to remind myself I'm only 4 days out of the cast.

    [REVISION TKR] Motherbone's Recovery Thread

Hmm, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to actually "walk" in this boot. My lower leg is too displaced outward for me to be able to point my left knee forward and take a straight step. I'm trying to build on what I can actually do, which is stand up and rock weight back and forth between one...
