[PARTIAL KR] PKR Success - 1 yr out.

Well, I haven’t been on in so long I can’t remember the last time. Between work and family, I had to take a bit of a “sabbatical” in order to get a handle on my time commitments. Things are not much better as I’m still extremely busy, but thought I would at least take a moment to capture where...

[PARTIAL KR] PKR Success - 1 yr out.

@Doupie, you make me blush as I am definitely not Superman! If I tell my wife someone called me that, she’d probably have an “accident” from laughing so hard. My OS did caution me that it’s easy to over do it and that my knee (soft tissues, not the implant) will still rebel at times when...

[REVISION TKR] Jolease's knee saga part 3<^

@Jolease, in my nonprofessional opinion, the only hurtful thing about doing clamshells is you are barely two months from surgery AND your ITB is apparently inflamed. Doing those exercises will just aggravate it more, at least it did for me. As with any kind of tendinitis, you don’t continue to...

[PARTIAL KR] PKR Success - 1 yr out.

Before surgery. After surgery - 1 yr. Scar after 1 yr. Flexion sitting in chair without any assistance.

[PARTIAL KR] PKR Success - 1 yr out.

I had my official 1 yr follow up with my OS this morning. New x-rays were taken which I’ve posted below as well as the ones taken at my initial visit for comparison. I’ve also posted updated pics of what my scar looks like after 1 yr (can barely see it) as well as a pic showing how much flex...

[REVISION TKR] Jolease's knee saga part 3<^

@Jolease, I really didn’t do anything specific other than to avoid the exercises that aggravated it and focused on gentle stretching activities for the ITB. I can tell you that clamshells, especially the ones involving lifting your leg, are not good to do as this stresses the ITB along the...

[REVISION TKR] Revision to TKR <

@Momma-me, it amazes me the difference approaches our doctors take. My OS didn’t prescribe any home nurse or home PT after discharge from the hospital. I didn’t go back to see him until 2 weeks after surgery. Only instructions were the various home stretches and gentle exercises shown to me by...

    [TKR] IronGirl6’s Recovery<<

@IronGirl6, hopefully your visit with your OS will help put you at ease. Be sure to ask about some focused PT to work on your knee cap concern. Not an expert by any means, but I’ll bet your “clicking” issue is related to inflamed tissues (ligaments and tendons) that still haven’t settled down...

    [TKR] IronGirl6’s Recovery<<

@IronGirl6, if I was you, I’d write that letter and address it to the facility director and copy my OS. First I’d chew out their (well you know what) while listing all the loss of functionality since the day they manhandled the knee as well as the pain you’ve been suffering. I might even hint...

[TKR] Getting back to hiking and climbing.

@Jajakio, it is so encouraging to get feedback from someone like yourself! I’m just past one year and what you described about residual pain is exactly what I currently experience. I attribute most of mine to muscles that are still gaining strength and ligaments and tendons that are still...

    [TKR] Irish471's Recovery Thread

@Irish471, great update. All during my recovery I, too, felt like there was a hard “door stop” behind my knee preventing it from bending further. As time goes, it seems like that door stop gets moved back more and more. At one year, I still have some sense of it. My flexion has not been measured...

[TKR] Softtail back for round 2

@Softtail, could very well be bruising from the tourniquet. Plus, don’t forget how much abuse your knee gets during surgery. If you need a reminder, google a YouTube video.

[PARTIAL KR] Catkins recovery from PKR!

@catkin69, I’m sure it feels good to be back home no matter how enjoyable the trip was. Quality vs quantity..... as someone who’s professional background is in quality, finding the ideal balance of the two is the ultimate goal. But it is achievable.

[REVISION TKR] Jolease's knee saga part 3<^

@Jolease, almost sounds like the IT band issues I had. Massage helps a lot for that. As well as avoiding or limiting the activities that aggravate it. Good ITB stretches also help.

    [TKR] Irish471's Recovery Thread

@Irish471, yep, I remember those nights. Calf, thigh, just about anywhere. Always something to interrupt a decent nights sleep. Continued off and on four about 3-4 months.

    [TKR] IronGirl6’s Recovery<<

@IronGirl6, by no means am I an expert here, but I’m going to guess that no lasting damage was done, at least to your knee hardware. Soft tissue wise, yeah, a big backwards step but you know what to do to facilitate healing. Glad to hear you told them off, maybe you ought to consider a letter to...

[PARTIAL KR] Catkins recovery from PKR!

@catkin69, I think you’ve found one secret to helping move your recovery along which is to find some form of distraction that also doubles as a form of physical rehabilitation for your knee. Your walk along the shore, vacation with friends, getting away from the normal (humdrum) routine that...

    [PARTIAL KR] MAKO PKR

@bowhunter, glad to see you back online! You are about 5 months behind me, my 1 yr was last week. Patience, one of the hardest parts of our recovery, even at 8 months. You think or feel like you can anything but then pay for it afterwards. In my case, it wasn’t until 8-9 months that I was able...

[PARTIAL KR] Catkins recovery from PKR!

I just love that quote! As someone who mainly looks to the positive of situations and place great faith in God to lead me down the right path, learning to “dance in the rain” is a great way of looking forward to the rainbow at the end of the storm!
