6 months left hip. Still strength training and now some balance training as a supplement. Walking on alternate days. Miscellaneous aches and pains in the groins and left IT band areas, that come and go.
@Greg555 Recommend 40Fit on FB or Patrons of Greysteel. Both are savvy about lifting after joint replacement. The former is free. The latter requires a dollar a month contribution via Patreon. Both adhere to the Starting Strength system.
I now mount the bicycle by laying it down and stepping over the frame. Kicking over the rear of the bicycle was causing transient pain in the hip crease, so I’m opting for discretion over valor. Not feeling much discomfort other than muscle fatigue from lifting.
I use the program in the book, Barbell Prescription by Dr. Jonathan Sullivan. If you decide to weightlift, try to get a coach, even if it’s a remote one by video. You absolutely need to get the form correct and proceed more slowly than typical. Source for remote lifting: Barbell...
I’ve had some level 2 right mid-groin pain on hip motion with any internal rotation, especially climbing steps and bending over. Can avoid it by thinking “knees out”. Goes away while walking. This has been going on for over a week.
The question is, when to alert the surgeon? I’m...
Stride is shortened, maybe a preop condition. Psoas stretches help.
I get non-specific knee and distal upper leg pain. Walking seems to help both.
Looking forward to when the gyms reopen. We’ll go real early to avoid aerosols.
Question. I tried bicycling today. Mounting turned out to be difficult. I can’t extend the leg over the rear of the bicycle. I have to dump the bicycle to the ground, straddle it, then pull it up.
Otherwise, the ride was fine.
Is this an artifact of the surgery? Prior arthritis? I noted some...
5 months right.
So far so good. I’m in Dallas, where the infection is relatively light, living in a lightly affected suburb. Family members are aware of hip complications to covid, and have upped the hygiene well.
Taking 2+ mile walks, monitoring the wind, avoiding other pedestrians, shifted...
Thank you, @Layla .
Gym is closed, so shifting to HIIT.
Doc said call him in a year. X-rays showed ossification on the right. He put me back on vitamin D for three months.
Planted tomatoes and peppers and got some sun. Took a 2.3 mile walk this evening. We’re only going out for groceries once...
Week 8 begins tomorrow.
Working out with barbells in a rehab protocol: lots of reps, low weight. Walking lots. Getting stronger though there’s always a little muscle fatigue.
Still a little swelling/bruise lower left leg lateral at the sock line. Will point out to doc at follow up appointment...
Week six. Still some discoloration in the operated lower leg, about 2” by 2”.
Got in 2 mile walk yesterday, and doing rehab exercises on barbells: light weights, more reps.
Stay well out there and up your hygiene. That’s what I’m doing.
Week 5: Squatting 30 lb tomorrow. Two days later, I will progress to doing it with a bar. Walking and stair climbing is getting better, although the weather is impeding the former.
Physical therapist says I still have a little hip swelling, and noted some black and blue working its way down to...
