    Chronicity

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm sure Jo will redirect if not. I started a new book this morning and right off the bat I was introduced to the stages of chronicity by an author named Gregg. While reading it I was struck by the similarities to so many posts here on...

    Keep a journal

I stopped to reflect today about my surgery and recovery and wished I'd kept a journal of how my recovery has gone. Then it came to me. I did keep a journal of sorts. I posted in the recovery area starting the day of surgery! Keep this in mind when you reach the recovery area. Not only do you...

Grab Bars: how good are the suction ones?

Has anyone used one of these and if so, how well do they seem to work? Right now, I have access to a walk in shower so I don't have to step up to get in and out but I would like to use my regular shower/tub since I had it remodeled before surgery. I meant to install grab bars before surgery but...

    looks like i made it

Sitting here sore and somewhat foggy. The pain is very similar to the first but not near as severe. It also feels, in addition to the incision pain, like someone kicked me in the butt real hard. Pt went well. I walked about 150-200ft. Waiting for food now. Could go home tomorrow, yet to see...

    Getting ready for liftoff

Went for preop yesterday in Nashville. PT said muscles were strong and in good shape except for isipsoas (sp) tightness. EKG and BP were good. Surgeon said I appear good to go for anterior and said 2-3 weeks and I might be without assistive device. He did say that with the xray that is used in...

I ran across this while looking up my surgeon's journal articles. Not sure if it's been posted or not. http://www.orthopaedicscore.com/

    pre op exercises

Some feedback from you gentle folks if you would. I am looking at THR in early April. The surgeon will probably do an anterior approach. I am thinking that if I can keep the muscles in my thigh toned and strong, the recovery might be a little easier. I have been doing the following: Leg raises...

    Visit to the joint clinic

Ok, I have been in awful pain since MLK day when I did a lot of squatting and bending while painting some cabinet doors. I was almost walker dependent for a few days. I had an x ray done mid January and it looked ok to me. I had a subsequent MRI which showed AVN w/edema throughout the femur...

    Bilateral THR

I would love to hear from some of you folks who have had both hips done. I need to hear how life is with two metal hips. Actually need some encouragement. Hm, I never noticed that courage makes up a big part of that word.

    Pain-opine for me

Strange Karma? I work in a public school setting. I am a 61 yr. old speech pathologist who had a THA of the R hip in 11/05. One of my coworkers has gone from a limp to a cane to a walker to a scooter this year. She is will be scheduled for bilateral knees probably in March. Recently, after some...
