TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

Last Sunday was my one-year mark...a milestone for sure. Had my check up yesterday with my surgeon. X-rays showed a bone cyst (the first I’d heard of it; I don’t know if it was there in November during my last x-ray). He quickly added that since the three-phase bone scan was normal, we didn’t...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@4quilts: thanks for writing. I appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Back in November, when I was 3 months out, I went to a sport massage person and she did the “taping,” too. She recommended Rock Tape. For me, the compression sleeve worked better than taping so I only taped a few times...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Celle: I appreciate as always your response! Is there ANY value in getting a sonogram? My dr didn’t think so but I could get one elsewhere. I didn’t think any magic would happen at the one-year mark, but had hoped to be feeling lots better; last time I noticed any improvement was about 4 months...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@DBN: thanks for your response! I had a number of “therapeutic” (deep tissue) massages when I was 3-4 months out. Thought they helped somewhat. But they were very expensive ($135 + tip and are now, w/COVID precautions and extra cleaning, an extra $15...all not covered by insurance). No one’s...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

Wondering what my next step should be. I’m on week 3 of gabapentin (taking 300 mg 3 x/day.) Not helping at all. Have had 3 acupuncture treatments...the scar looks less red but no change in tightness/pain. Walking two miles 3 x/week...can tolerate it fine w/no additional tightness/pain once done...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@partialfixFeb: thanks for sharing that...it’s always good to know I have someone who’s been in the same boat as me! But even BETTER to hear that she is doing so well!!! I’d be interested in knowing about how long after surgery until it had fully passed.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

Tykey, judgar, sistersinhim, Jockette, NightQuilter, Rockgirl4, Daneez: This will be a lengthy post but it contains info that those who have been experiencing “tightness” might find useful! I am 11 months out and had an appointment with a pain management doctor today. She suspects that I have...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Daneez: I’m so sorry that you are still having tightness...you know I KNOW what you are going through! I’m wondering if the compression sleeve I’m wearing would help you? Happy to pass along the brand, etc. It might really help stabilize your knee/leg. I, too, notice my left leg is weaker, esp...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@DBN, @Rockgirl4, @Jaycey: I asked my doctor about this thru the portal. He said he was familiar with this device and the brand he recommends is Donjoy. Just fyi!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Jaycey: ok, I didn’t realize that. So someone can’t even say the brand name that they’ve had success with (no link...just the brand)? When I typed in the name, a BUNCH of different ones popped up.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Rockgirl4: yep, lots of tightness/pain, all day. But decent ROM! It is ALL a puzzle to me how these new knees heal...everyone’s journey is so individual, and probably dependent on dozens of factors. At the end of the day, though, I’d gladly give up some ROM for less tightness!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@DBN: THANKS for sharing this! Have never heard of this device. Looks like it goes right underneath the kneecap. Does it inhibit bending in any way? And would you mind sharing the brand name/company contact info? Really appreciate this!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Rockgirl4: THANKS so much for responding!!! I’m so happy you are doing better!!! It does give me hope. Reading what you wrote is causing me to reconsider my level of activity and find the elusive “sweet spot“ you describe between too little and too much exercise. I walked 20 minutes this week...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@judgar: oh no, I had a blood clot in 2017 following a meniscus surgery. But my ortho dr DID tell me to use heat, so I don’t know...I go to see my GP in about 2 weeks...I will ask him and let you know!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@NightQuilter: I’ve actually switched to using the heating pad for the past two weeks but may go back to icing because it’s not helping too much. When I ice, it numbs the pain but it’s still tight, if that makes sense. And through the portal, my GP said that “Ortho doctors don’t like to see...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Rockgirl4: hope you and your knee are doing well. Am wondering how you’re getting along re tightness...it’s been almost a year if I’m remembering correctly...and if there is ANYTHING (besides taking it easy and giving it time) you can recommend to make me more comfortable on a day-to-day basis...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@judgar: honestly, my knee is tight from the instant I get up (not too bad since it has had 7-8 hours of rest) to the end of the day (a lot tighter). BEFORE surgery 10 mos ago today, it only got tight after I stood for about 45 mins or longer. So I am much worse post surgery, which is beyond...
