TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: I got to 120 (eventually) after both the initial knee replacement and the revision. Multiple x-rays and 2 MRIs show that the implant is fine. A tight, swollen feeling is what got me into surgery in the first place. Before surgery I got it after standing for abt 45 mins. Now, post two...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: no, even early on the dr and PTs said I was bending too well to recommend an MUA. I asked and asked. My range of motion took a lot longer to get where it’s supposed to be, but it was juuusst good enough to rule it out (shrug).

@demps: MAU? Not sure what that means… Do you maybe mean MUA (“manipulation under anesthesia”). I never had to get a (MUA)…my range of motion was always pretty decent.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: I think of having a scope Every. Single. Day! May write a message to the Duke dr to see if he would do that/think it would help me. @Vida: was going through my thread and remembered that you had a scope back in October (I think). How are you doing? Did it help? I sure hope so! Would...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: no, I haven’t experienced most of those things…no noise from my knee, haha, no problem going from sitting to standing, no rocks/marbles feeling. I wish I knew what is causing BOTH of our problems! I’d wave a wand and poof! No more pain, tightness and odd feelings. Sigh. So frustrating...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: I’m doing ok! Hope you are, too! I walked 45 minutes yesterday. For the past year or so I’ve been keeping my exercise to 30 mins….but I’ve increased it and it doesn’t cause me any additional tightness/pain. I WAS hurting some last night tho. The tightness/pain is right in the front...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

Thanks, Jamie, for your clarification! I will dig through the massive amount of paperwork I have related to my knee to see which lab, specifically, in Chicago did my testing.

@demps: that's where I had mine done—at the lab in Chicago.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: I’ve thought of everything (haha) including injections. But my dr said they don’t do injections in a “new” knee…and I never asked when a “new” knee becomes an “old” knee. (My implant will be 5 year old in August).

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@sistersinhim: your comment made me think! The Duke dr I went to that did the skin patch test strongly said that the skin patch test was THE definitive test to determine nickel allergy! You can see my confusion… What no one can tell me (and probably no one knows) is WHAT causes me to make SO...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: I had my revision in April 2022, so almost two years ago. I had the “tight band” feeling ever since my August 2019 knee replacement. I’d tried EVERYTHING, got multiple opinions, etc. Most doctors said they thought getting a patellar “button” (getting the knee resurfaced) would help. I...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Irj: I tried 4 sessions of acupuncture about 3 years ago. Unfortunately they didn’t do a thing (except, interestingly, made abt a 1 inch part of my scar on my knee almost completely fade!) I’ve tried EVERYTHING anyone can suggest. Seen multiple doctors, had every test. All that’s left is to do...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@demps: with the help of Bonesmart staff, I found my thread and can give you info on tibial rotation. Search online for The Bone and Joint Journal. Look up an article called “Internal rotational error of the tibial component is a major cause of pain after total knee replacement.” Authors are...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Vida: and one more thing…I will be thinking of YOU and hoping that your most recent procedure brings you lots of relief!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Vida: thanks for your support! It’s bizarre but my doctor initially talked about arthroscopic surgery but once he saw the CT scan showing tibial rotation, he shifted to taking everything out. I honestly think no one has ANY idea what to do to help me and simply default to…surgery.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

Well it’s about the end of the line for my left knee. My “regular” surgeon said at this point he would recommend going back in, taking everything out and putting in a new implant that I couldn’t be allergic to. Sadly, the Duke doctor suggested the same thing. He DID order blood work—chromium...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@EalingGran: yep I wondered the same thing! And yes, I feel that 2 doctors have fobbed me off (what a great expression)!

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@EalingGran: THANKS so much for pointing me towards this article! Had never heard of this journal either. I intend to print out and show the Duke doctor; hopefully he will give it some consideration instead of dismissing it because my knee isn’t (doesn’t?) dislocate and the implant isn’t loose.

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

My visit with my OS last week was a little disappointing…he said that since my knee isn’t “dislocating,” (which I assume means that the implant isn’t loose) he said that the tibial rotation isn’t a big deal. He wasn’t optimistic that dry needling would help. (My former PT had recommended dry...

TKR Suggestions needed for “tight band” feeling

@Jamie: I will keep you and the other Bonesmart people updated after my appt w/my OS on Aug. 17… and then again after my appt with the Duke dr. on Sept. 13.
