    Knee Infection* getting there

I am now 6 weeks post second stage knee replacement and it appears that the infection has finally cleared. I stopped the antibiotics after the surgery and have now finished with pain killers too. The knee recovery is going very well. I saw the consultant yesterday and he is very happy with my...

    Knee Infection* getting there

The Second stage surgery was completed on the 1st April as planned. I spent four days afterwards in hospital and am now very pleased to be home with my new knee joint looking very firmly in place. A number of samples were taken during surgery and all have proved clear of any infection, so my...

    Knee Infection* getting there

I have been given the date of 1st April for my surgery, the second part of the two stage revision. The NHS here is very stretched with staff absences and burn-out so I am grateful to have something to put in my diary. My last intravenous antibiotic happened on monday and the line is now out. I...

    Knee Infection* getting there

I met with the consultant yesterday. CRP now at 6. He is very happy with the progress made and I am being taken off the intravenous Teicoplanin on friday, after six weeks treatment, and put back on oral antibiotics. Unfortunately he cannot give me a date yet for stage two of my revision surgery...

Knee Infection* 4 surgeries, 2 revisions, 1 staph epi infection

Hey. I am jealous ! so good to hear you can leave the cabin !! I noticed you had to wait near enough 8 weeks between stage one and stage two. I am nearly a month today living with my spacer and brace. I am hoping my stage two will happen no later than yours did. Here our wonderful NHS is badly...

Knee Infection* 4 surgeries, 2 revisions, 1 staph epi infection

Thank you both for your words of encouragement. As an active, outdoors person I have to admit to finding this process very difficult indeed. The cabin fever can be dreadful some days....... but great to know I am not alone. Very best wishes from the UK.

Knee Infection* 4 surgeries, 2 revisions, 1 staph epi infection

I am reading all this with interest and am grateful that you share it all. I am now three weeks into the first stage of the two part revision and finding the brace a necessary nuisance, particularly at night when i cannot seem to get it comfortable to sleep well. I am receiving a gram of...

    Knee Infection* getting there

I am now three weeks after having stage one of the two stage revision of my left knee. I have an external brace on the knee and a spacer inside. When I move around, the knee makes lots of clicking and clunking noises which is a bit alarming. Everything seems to be in place and the pain is now...

    Knee Infection* getting there

Nobody is sure how the bacteria got in but my theory is that it was when I fell off my bike and cut that knee. I fell on to a farm track used by cows and the Steptococcus Agalactiae has some association with cows and gives them mastitis, although it also lives on humans quite naturally .

    Knee Infection* getting there

Yes it has been a bit of a saga ! Knee replaced in 2016, then infection and DAIR in September 2019, six weeks of Teicoplanin and then onto oral Amoxycillin for nearly two years. But none of that got rid of the infection which flared up whenever I stopped taking the penicillin. Finally...

    Knee Infection* getting there

I am now home after receiving surgery on the 22nd December to take out the implant infected by Streptoccocus agalactiae. I am receiving 1g Teicoplanin every day intravenously by a nurse from a local NHS service, and plans are to have this treatment for at least 6 weeks. My knee is braced...

    Revision TKR Revision surgery

Thank you for your response. My bloods are being monitored regularly. I am due in very soon for the knee to be aspirated first so that they can check the variety of Strep. I have a condition called Thrombocythemeia so a haematologist is also looking after me.

    Revision TKR Revision surgery

My knee was replaced in 2016 and all was going well until I managed to get a Streptococcus infection on the implant in 2019. After a complete wash out, ten weeks of intravenous antibiotics and then over two years of Amoxycillin, the infection flares up again as soon as the antibiotics are...

    Revision TKR Revision surgery

Good news! My CR-P has dropped to 7. I saw the Ortho Consultant today and all my bloods are looking very positive so he has suggested a halt to the daily Teicoplanin and a move on to oral Augmentin, an enhanced penicillin, three times a day with a review in two weeks time, then maybe stay on...

    Revision TKR Revision surgery

The latest blood test results from Sunday shows CR-P remaining at 12. Knee still swollen and giving off heat which suggest to me that infection may still be present, even after 7 weeks of Teicoplanin. I see the Consultant in a weeks time for review so hoping things will be clearer then !

    Revision TKR Revision surgery

Saw the Consultant this morning. My CR-P has gone from 14 last week to 12 yesterday, a small decline. Consultant is proposing a further two weeks of Teicoplanin to see if it will get below 7 and then a further review in two weeks time. Its slow process.......
