    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

Hi Layla! Thank you for that. I’m doing very well, I’m part of water exercise classes at our new fitness center and go about my day NOT thinking about my knee every step of the way. I so appreciate the encouragement and wish all the best healing to all bonesmarties on this journey. ❤️

Bilateral TKR Update-Bilateral TKRs 2.5 years later

Hi Moka. Yes, you have truly been through a rough time with your knees. I’m in NC as well, my doctors are in Asheville- Dr Lang and Dr. Jansen. Oh and Dr. DePaulo 11yrs ago with my first TKR. Revisions are more difficult as far as recovery I believe. Hopefully you feel good about your surgeon...

    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

A little update: On Monday I called my doctor’s office to leave a message for my surgeon that I was feeling some crackling in my knee again. No pain or swelling. I asked if I should pull back on activity or go forward in spite of it. I have this crazy fear of generating excess scar tissue...

Bilateral TKR VA Mom March 2023

Can’t say that I have. Hopefully it was emotions and not them torturing you. I do cry at weird times though…..watching sweet old couples in church or lots of songs trigger me. . “Raindrops keep falling on my head “ and definitely Silent Night. Sorry, got carried away.

Bilateral TKR VA Mom March 2023

@VA Mom - Those early days will surely test your endurance. I don’t think there’s a limit on how often or long you can ice and elevate. Of course get up every hour or more to move around and walk a bit. As long as you’re protecting your skin with enough fabric that you don’t damage your skin...

TKR Start of my knee journey

So glad your pain is manageable. I just did the toe/foot flexes and tiny heel slides while in my recliner to begin with. Then of course walking to the bathroom and other necessary tasks. Stay the course, Twinny, you’re still in the roughest part. I’ll pray for decreased swelling.

TKR Start of my knee journey

Glad you’re home, you’ll probably be more comfortable there. In addition to pain and swelling, feeling “sooky “ which probably means sucky, down, lousy and emotionally shaken, that’s all normal and to be expected. Read the guidance on “the blues” here on Bonesmart. Hang in there Twinny, each...

TKR Start of my knee journey

Hi Twinny. Glad you’re on the recovery side of surgery. Poor thing, you shouldn’t have to have all the pain right “out of the gate.” Talk to your doc, nurses, anyone you have access to so they can help you get the pain managed. They can try different things. Of course icing and elevating should...

    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

I had my follow up with the surgeon who did my arthroscopy. He was very pleased and feels confident that scar tissue won’t return with a vengeance. I hope he’s right. I feel good, swelling is directly related to how long I’ve been standing or walking. I ice and elevate several times a day. I’m...

    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

I think my situation was unique in that I didn’t have stiffness at all. My ROM was very good. I look forward to my follow up in a week to get anymore insight. I’m feeling good after the procedure. Just some tenderness and mild swelling. Thanks for sharing that information, it’s so interesting.

    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

Thank you Sistersinhim. That is pretty much what my surgeon said as far as after care for the procedure and further recovery. He didn’t call it adhesions but scar tissue that developed excessively. In my mind, adhesions would affect my ROM but I still had that, although I had to crackle my way...

PKR One Year Out - Pleased With Outcome

I agree, it must be so very challenging when you have so many other responsibilities to contend with. I do volunteer work once a week but that’s been put on hold for now. So we are fortunate with the time we can give to healing. I thought I’d be in my 80s before things started giving out. I had...

PKR One Year Out - Pleased With Outcome

@@EalingGran, I’ve just read your posts and I’m hoping things will settle down and you get stronger with your knee! So nice of you to comment to me regarding my stuff. My TKR was last August and at the 4 month time frame everything was kicking into gear in a good way. Then I had my injury that...

    TKR Recovery Journey Continues

Thanks for responding, Sistersinhim. You’re very familiar with arthroscopy procedures. Do you have any insight into the best way to avoid excess scar tissue growth? Obviously I’m beginning very slowly and ROM isn’t a factor because it’s always been good. So I don’t need to work that per se, just...
