Had my post-op check yesterday and got my stitches out. Everything is healing nicely! PT starts in three weeks.
Not driving is going to drive me batty. Things like going to the pharmacy drive through, picking up grocery orders seem like nothing until you can’t do it!
Sleeping at night is...
I am amazed at the lack of pain so far and how well I feel overall. The second day post-op was really the only time where I’ve had a lot of discomfort. The bandage came off yesterday and I’m left with six neat incisions with stitches, lots of bruising, and minor swelling.
I am tapering off...
I’m having arthroscopic repair of a full thickness supraspinatus tear, a major bicep tear, and a minor infraspinatus tear. Right shoulder/dominant arm.
So glad I thought to come here! I had two knee replacements (one partial and one full) five years ago) and it occurred to me that there might be a forum for shoulder surgery recovery as well. Bingo!
Rotator cuff surgery is tomorrow. I royally messed it up in a fall a few weeks ago. Three major...
@Cathleen
This is long, sorry!
I recently ran my first 5K after PKR and TKR in late 2015. I was slow, slow, slow - but it felt great. (The 30 pounds I've gained has more to do with the slowness than anything.) Mostly, I wanted to know I could do it again if I wanted to. I've pondered...
I have what I think is great news.
The sciatica issues are almost resolved AND the lingering knee pain has been cut in half (at least). I am thrilled!
The problem? MY ARCHES FELL. I'm now wearing inserts that support my arches and the pain has almost disappeared. My knees were constantly...
Thanks, @Celle!
I ran for 20 minutes last night (walked another 20) and it was wonderful. I'm incredibly slow, but my knees feel strong and solid. No major sciatica issues with the run either. A little tingling in my leg, but no numbness thankfully.
It's been a few weeks since I said I was running again. Well, it hasn't killed me yet! However (drum roll please), I'm back in PT for my sciatic nerve. I discovered that it's bad when your foot goes numb while running or walking fast. PT for the lower back is AWESOME. I was expecting to be...
Running update: So far, so good.
I'm slower than a turtle, but there has been no extra pain or swelling. If anything, my knees feel better. At this point, my asthma is giving me far more trouble than my knees. They're a little stiff when I first start but that goes away quickly. So far I'm...
@Celle That sounds horrible! I'm going into it with my eyes wide open and with the expectation that if I can't run, I'll just try to improve my walking speed. I will definitely be careful and won't continue if I have any swelling or soreness that lingers. My husband and most all of my friends...
@2helpme You may want to ice even more that you're currently doing. I kept the polar ice cuff on almost ALL the time if I was horizontal. It was #1 thing that helped me more than anything. Over a year later, I still pull out the ice when I over-do it and have swelling and pain.
Freeze...
Hi all! I haven't been around for a few months - I guess that means everything is good.
Drum roll please...I'm getting ready to start running again! I'm 55 and thought, "why not?" By the time I wear out these implants, there may be some new procedure that won't make replacement so bad. And...
I can't imagine anyone not having pain after just three or four weeks out! I think they're telling big, fat FIBS!!!:heehee:
I was moaning and groaning to my OS about still having pain a year later and what he said made me think differently. He said my pain is from my constant over-doing it...
@sheliac I have a funny story from my TKR last November. While I was in the hospital, my breakfast would arrive about two hours after taking my pain meds when I would be at the height of being loopy. The second morning in the hospital, my husband walked out of the room while I was eating. He...
Hang in there, it does get better.
I'm over a year out from a partial replacement on my left knee, and almost eleven months out for the total replacement on my right knee. It's a very long healing process, but the first few weeks are the hardest both physically and mentally. Once you start...
Seriously, Shelia @sheliac ! The nurse obviously has never had a knee replacement. Even now, with much stronger quads and full ROM, I like to make sure there's something stationary to pull up on if I have to get down on the floor. Getting up is not a graceful act. :rotfl:
