    I'm baaaack!!

Awake again since 0230, icing and thinking about surgery in 2 more days. It really has been easier to prepare this time, knowing what to expect. I have meals in the freezer, house cleaned (vacuuming today is likely why I'm so miserable tonight!) and everything else organized. Still, I don't...

    I'm baaaack!!

Back again, now that the reality of my upcoming surgery is setting in. . .and the pain has gotten much worse lately. Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. I am feeling much better prepared this time. It does help knowing what to expect. Spent the last two days filling the freezer with...

2016 July Sparklers - Are you having hip surgery in July?

I'm scheduled for my LTHR on July 5. Had the RTHR in November 2014. Been doing really well until about 6 months ago; the pain is getting much worse, so I know it's time. Still a little anxious, but so much less than the first time, mostly thanks to this group!

    I'm baaaack!!

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. It's now mid - May, we're back in Oregon, and I've seen my surgeon. Scheduled for the second go round for the LTHR July 5. I'm not as anxious this time - knowing what to expect helps, and having a really good outcome with the first one gives me hope. I'm...

    I'm baaaack!!

Thanks, @Jaycey! I had a miserable night with burning pin despite lots of med - put a call in to my surgeon this AM in hopes of getting on the schedule early June - hopefully I can manage til then. I had a great outcome with the first one, with an uncomplicated surgery and quick recovery -...

    I'm baaaack!!

Hello to all my Bonesmart Buddies! I had my RTHR in November 2014, and couldn't be happier with the results. Unfortunately, my initial xrays showed "end stage" arthritic changes on the right and "severe" disease in the left. After the right was replaced, and I could walk straight without...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Greetings to all my BS friends! I guess it's pretty typical for those of us fortunate to have a smooth recovery to gradually let go of what was a true life line during a frightening and painful crisis. . . Still, I do find myself missing the wonderful friends I met on this site. I'm now almost...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Thanks for the wonderful birthday wishes! We spent the week exploring the Chiricahua National Monument - area of 8000 ft mountains & amazing rock formations. And, best of all, I did a 4 mile hike with some moderate elevation without any hip pain! - even the original equipment on the other side...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Hi, @Jamie! Thanks for asking. We are enjoying the warm sun of the desert. I'm doing pretty well, lots of walking, but maybe got too ambitious with exercising this week. I started a water exercise class which includes a variety of squats and lunges in warm shallow water. Not sure what I did, but...

    THR Nerve problems

Hello @Legin - haven't been on BS for a bit - been sick with a nasty cold, and busy traveling to our winter home. Wanted to see how things are with you. . . Hoping so much that you are sorting things out, and that you are seeing some improvement with the nerve pain. Sending all my best wishes...

THR scared to death did it

Hi @pink24 - Happy Birthday! Just catching up with your post op thread - so happy to hear that you're through surgery and progressing. . .I can assure you that each week will be better and better. As everyone says, the first 2 weeks are generally the hardest - just an aside, you had surgery on...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Greetings to all my Bonesmart friends! I haven't posted in the last 2 weeks because we left our home in the NW for a 1500 mile journey to our winter home - took it fairly slow in our little motor home. I was anxious about how I would handle it, but did well with regular stops to walk around a...

    THR Nerve problems

I'm trying to embrace insomnia . . Lol. Couldn't sleep last night after driving. Always been avid reader, so knocked off a book, been reading lots of books about high altitude mountaineering. Not sure why, but find the the psychology of those who challenge the 8000 meter mountains fascinating. ...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Thanks for the encouragement, @Legin , @Hoppy Nanny , @NuMe2014 , and @Midchild54 . I'm crossing fingers that the left hip holds out a bit longer so I can fully recover from this one before facing the next go round. So far, pretty manageable aches - x Ray looks worse than it feels. I have great...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Hi, @AnnieABC! Glad to hear you are doing well, too. I'm impatient with how long it takes to regain range-of-motion. . .still can't really put on right sock or tie shoe without serious contortions. However, I had almost no restrictions, and have been able to soak in my tub since the incision...

THR Out with the old; in with the new! Hopefulm's Recovery

Today is 8 weeks since my RTHR. . .I am still amazed that I can walk straight without limping! Off meds except for Tylenol and occasional Vicodin - mostly after driving. Anything more than about 30 minutes driving is still very painful. . .something about the position I have to hold my foot...

    THR Nerve problems

Hi, @Legin. Love your dog - fun to play dress up with them! Glad you have that canine companionship - nothing quite like it. So sorry your nerve pain is bad - hopefully you doc can adjust the Neuro blockers & pain meds for better control - at least so you can get some decent REM sleep. Our...
