TKR still waiting to reach the other side

Well its almost 10:30. My appointment is at eleven. The wife will be here in a few minutes. Trying on a. few different smiles for the day.

On a brighter note, I saw my gastric bypass surgeon two days ago. He did my surgery in November of 1999. My weight was 182. Last time I saw him was two years ago and it was 212 which is what it has pretty much been within ten pounds for the last few years. My original weight was 392. The 182 is including the fact I have at least a few pounds in swelling and I haven't done much, if any cardio since Christmas. Anyway, long story short, I have mentioned my exercise program and the different complicated aspects of it and how it has recently really changed my body (one would say i was a brick poop house) pretty rock solid except for loose skin. He wants me to be a guest speaker at the support group February 27.

Best of luck.
Ahhhh, Bagel Boss. You just can't get an authentic bagel where I am.

In my opinion, I would avoid the gym until you get some answers.
I have been trying to get in some sort of shape before my revision on the 29th, and overdid it. Payback was...well you know.
Still paying.

Let us know how it goes.

Very interesting appointment today. Kinda like the first real exam too. Dr. was an older, more seasoned gentleman who is towards the end of his career and really held back no punches in his referral to what causes may be and ordered a dew additional tests to confirm his suspicion.

Besides the tear and the resurfacing he absolutely agrees upon, he is very concerned that the muscle in the thigh above the knee is not working. He wants a neurologist to do an EMG or ENG to test muscle function and is concerned about the damage the epidural in the back may have caused in the leg. He knows my surgeon very well and after he has results of tests, he is going to contact him. Overall he isn't happy with the surgery job on this knee for a few reasons and also wants to check for bone fragments???

I wasn't going to go today because I seem to always get this confused, scared look when they look at my xrays, MRI, etc. But he delved right in. So next step is more tests and then more conversations. This doctor does not do revisions but says he will guide me. Scared but a little hopeful.

This definitely sounds like some progress. Good for you.

Now that's better! I feel you are getting the support and counsel you need there. Well done you!

MAJOR move in the right direction. It is always good to get an opinion from someone who will not do the surgery. He must know where to send you to get the surgery done right.
Keep us up to date.
Sandy

I sent copies of MRI scans to a surgeon in Manhattan at Special Surgeries one of you recommended. Last I heard the reports were on his desk and he was going to review and see if he would consider seeing me. Well p.s, I got a call from his secretary today stating she was instructed to get me in to see him with a prompt appointment. Heck he booked me for Monday in Manhattan at 11am! Now I am scared. Last night the pain hit an all time nerve high - 3 pain pills, the gel, a two milligram bar of xanax, a load of vitamins and i was still yelling in pain. It was a horrible repeated stabbing on the inner part of my leg on the inside of the knee. I wanted to just give up it was so bad and unrelentless. Eventually, with the help of numerous things including glycine melatonin, massagers, ice, pills and tranquilizers, we were able to knock me out to sleep. I didn't think it was going to let up. Today it is the normal sore pain, weakness, etc., minus the constant stab. An occaional jab in the area reminds me of how lucky I am today. It's Friday night, normal date night. My wife is ordering dinner in and I will stay at her place. I hope to not have that haunting pain tonight. If anyone is listening and knows what I should do or ask or expect next please tell me

Sandra, that's good news indeed! He sounds like he's on to something. I wish there was something I could tell you about what to expect but I'm afraid I can't. Just try to stay calm and take it as it comes. Can't wait to hear what he has to say.

As for that pain, I hope you are taking your pain meds by the clock and not waiting until you are in pain. Nor cutting down on the dose. That's the best way I know of being preventative.

revesiion surgeon appointment today at hospital for special surgery manhatten

ok here it is so far the revision specialists put a needle in and pulled out the some fluid and the synovial fluid (probablly spelled wrong sorry) should be no higher than a count of 250 i think he said well mine was 68785... now i am scared for sure surgery date is feb 15 they will put in a spacer filled with antibiotic remove the knee replacement i had done last december then after six weeks they will put a new knee in (only if infection is completely gone. He will make repairs to knee cap ligaments and whatever else needs to be done. he said my knee was grossly infected they have turned it over to an infectious specialis to try and figure out the strain and what intravenous antibiotic to use. please chime in now and tell me anything encouraging:sigh:

Re: revesiion surgeon appointment today at hospital for special surgery manhatten

Sisterslee I am so very sorry to hear this news but it sounds like you are finally in the right hands! Much can be done to fight infection and although it may be a trial, you will come out the other side with a healthy knee. Thoughts and prayers are most definately with you!

Sandy....I'll be thinking about you on the 15th and sending good vibes your way. I'm so happy that things are moving forward finally for you. Your new doctor sounds like a real peach.

Sandra,
Best of luck tomorrow and Happy Valentines Day!
You will finally get rid of that infecte, nasty knee and get some treatment in the right direction!
My revision is on the 29th, so we will be recovering together.
Look at this as MAJOR progress.
This is going to take a while, but in the long run, it will be worth it.
It sounds like you have the right team for your care. It makes all the diference.
Best of luck
Sandy

Sisterslee-

We have a friend who at 58 had a knee replacement in which he became one of the 3% where anything that could, did go wrong, including a massive infection. He had major infection and ended up back in the hospital having his knee replaced a second time. He has told me numerous times that if he had to do it all over again, even with a second replacement inside of one year, he would do it again. He is 6 months out from his second replacement and said he doesn't even think about his knee anymore. He has some slight swelling from time to time but lives in a 3 level home and said he no longer thinks about going up and down the stairs. Good luck, here's hoping everything turns around for you!
