TKR ski_bum's Recovery Thread

Update after 4 days of Nuclear Scanning.
Had a phone call today (yes Good Friday) with my Doctor in regards to report from Nuclear scans.
I have had so much blood work, a Synovial Biopsy and everything is negative so the retesting with the Nuclear Scanning was done. Results below.

My Doctor asked if I wanted to have a revision and I said NO Thank you, I will live with the pain unless or until symptoms change. Pain on the scale ranges between 2-4 similar to pre surgery.
He explained he had a patient that had 5 knee revisions before pain free. NO Thank You!

All information is being forwarded to the second Surgeon for his opinion.

I have snow skied 126 1/2 days with reduced Meds in the mornings.
Sleep is a problem, knee pain is worse when idle watching TV and in bed.
I thank everyone for their wishes, prayers Etc., will update when I have anything new.

Report,
COMPARISON:
Bone scan March 24, 2023, white blood cell November 24, 2022 (Focal Osteomyelitis)

FINDINGS:
Planar and SPECT CT imaging of the knees have been obtained and compared to the
prior study. On the 4 hour imaging, there remains a persistent abnormal focus
about the left medial femoral condyle which may be faintly visualized on the 24
hour images

Gosh you've been through a lot with this. I don't blame you for not wanting a revision, especially after hearing your doctor say he had a patient that had five revisions before he was pain free. It's sad though to think of you living with pain that's comparable to the level you dealt with pre-op. Please do keep us in the loop.
Wishing you a wonderful Easter weekend with those you love!

@ski_bum
Happy Easter to you as well.
You are the Best.

So sorry to hear that things are not right and you have pain similar to the pre- op pain. I totally understand your not wanting a revision op- especially as your function must be really good to be out skiing.
Will they just keep monitoring this area on the scan?

@ski_bum, I’m sad to hear that you’re dealing with so much related to the knee. I dealt with a revision and am having a much better outcome but it’s taking awhile. If you eventually decide to go the route of revision, please find a fellowship trained revision specialist. It is a surgery that needs to be done right, especially after all you’ve been through.

I have a second surgeon that is really good.
All the scans & reports have been sent to him and call me for a visit.
My Family DR. is really good, he called me on Good Friday.
There is another 10 minute Nuclear Scan they may do.
Thanks for the care.
Don
