THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

@Mayhip8 I love your CV too!
My girls are 24 and almost 29. My SIL is 30 and my granddaughter just turned 18 months. I got married later( almost 32) and when my older daughter had Ari at 27 she thought she was a young mum!
I think that's prime time!
My hip was so good today maybe collectively we are turning a corner.
I found a YouTube channel with these kind of corny guys, 2 PTs who show how to do advanced exercises for post hip.
Even with what they are calling advanced its still not the pretzel twisting of my PT I experienced a few weeks back.
Chrissy i am betting once you give that hip a rest from what they were doing you'll be amazed at how much it will recover! That's how it was for me.
I, too am so grateful for BS, all the folks who pop in to encourage and don t seem to mind how much we complain and how scared we are and especially for my fellow globe- trotting hippy sisters who share their lives their feelings and encouragement and especially what we're eating and cooking every day.
Your humor and friendship and encouragement just make my day every day! Heres to our exciting next week.:cheers2:

:angel:Awww What lovely posts
Well it's a busy Monday so far
I'm a'Dusting and a' cleaning things my eyes have spied that needed doing but I couldn't previously do
I'm taking it in small but do-able bite size pieces
And cooking a chicken dinner with apple crumble..... Down in the cellar ( Yey! I can go down the steps again!)
I found some Kilner jars of Apples I bottled a couple of years ago- with added sugar and cinnamon- perfect for my crumble . I've no flour so I've used granola and smashed up oaty biscuits for the topping ..( Will be interesting to see how crunchy that gets?!!)
I'm sleeping ok now I'm off diazepam and codeine but have woken up literally groaning as my Unoperated hip is causing me pain in the night . My poor husband - I'm so disruptive but he never complains ( probs still asleep!)
Thinking of you @ChrissyW today as you return to your work place - be kind and patient to yourself won't you?
@ahipgma I've seen those videos on you tube - a very comedic duo they are too! I can't really do too much formal physio per se as my right one is too sensitive at the moment - I'm just walking around with or without crutches according to how I feel - I have a Victorian house with long steep stairs and that helps going up and down those a *few * times a day . I'm still looking at different people and thinking oh ! You're miles ahead of me ! Or... Should I have done so much this soon!.... I'll know what to expect next time..... To expect nothing and realise every day is different for different people!
Have a good rest of Monday folks
I'm off to buy a new microwave combi oven as mine decided to go to the big magnetron in the sky yesterday:gaah:
Love and hugs
:loveshwr::roseshwr:

Happy start-to-the-week!
Well @Mayhip8 you're getting the housewifely piece together. You go girl!
If I were at your house for that yummy sounding apple crumble I would hope you'd put out a can of is it what you call squirty cream? for the top!
Hub stayed up half the night watching an IT job run for his work ( he can work from home -a blessing when I had my surgery) and I had one of those nights where I just couldn't get comfortable but did sleep. He got into bed around 5 am and I slept better then. Now its 9am and I'm slowly getting my day started.
Good luck with your appliance shopping.
I was told once that many larger appliances are only built to last 7 years!:sigh:
I remember my mom having one stove and one fridge my whole growing up years. Back later!!!

Hello my lovelies! Day 1 completed :tada:and it was lovely to see the students and have a catch up. I stayed about 2.5 hours and took it nice and steady. The drive was probably the most challenging as it was the longest I've driven so far ( well it didn't have much to compete with as I'd only done a couple of short journeys before today). I met with who I needed to meet with, went through the workplace risk assessment so all is done there and I'm feeling positive. It was just do good to see a room full of people, all caring and no one at all just expecting me to do everything as before but getting my chair sorted to the right height, people making me coffee and getting to interview 2 new applicants to post 16. I'm going to be doing 3 hrs a day this week and we will review this next week to see if I can manage 4 but the are happy for me to set the hrs based around what I can manage.
I did think, to top of what has been a good day so far, that I should perhaps pop my coat back on and come for Apple and cinnamon crumble with lashings of custard! @Mayhip8 you really do sound like a domestic goddess! I feel for you with the pain you are suffering, both you and @ahipgma because you have got the good hip feeling, the recovery muscle aches and everything, the highs knowing there is light at the end of this tunnel but all this while still going through what I knew was horrendous pain pre op. I suppose fore warned us fore armed as the old saying goes and we well and truly are now.
Enjoy the rest if the day and I hope the microwave purchase went well. Did you get the multi function type? I love mind fit it's grill!
Xxx:loveshwr:

@ChrissyW I'm so proud of you! Well done - a great achievement and a lovely positive outcome - you'll be back at the helm in no time - slowly, safely, and it must lift your spirits to be back ?
You are more than welcome to come join the crumble party! @ahipgma will be delighted to know we have squirty cream as well..
I've sourced a Samsung combi from John Lewis - I like their customer service and free delivery! With a bit of luck they'll send a chef and a cleaner too!!
To be fair I'm quite enjoying the domestic bit - If it's like playing house them I'm fine with it - but like a truculent teenager if I HAVE to do it then it bugs me - I've always said My job isn't to do everything AND be in full time paid employment - we live together -we share the chores " Team work makes the dream work " :rotfl::rofsign:
If only .......
Off to baste my chicken now .. Oh! The life!
I'll warm your plates ladies :loveshwr:

Woohoo! @ChrissyW Dipping your toe into the work pool went so well.
How did your thigh feel during that time?
I guess I'm hoping the endorphins of normalcy help in pain relief?
So glad for you that everyone is so supportive.
Calling my health insurance company this afternoon just to check about the statements and bills we are receiving.
Might need a pain pill just for that....
I got some frozen chicken out of the freezer out of inspiration @Mayhip8!
Though I may have to join you for that crumble so if it's a horse for Chrissy its gotta be:kayak::yes:

So the thigh pain remains the same @ahipgma . Walking is fine but lifting the leg is when the pain strikes, so climbing in to the car did cause some pain however as I'm conscious of movements the aggravate it I steer well clear. Strange that you both had chicken for tea, we were supposed to but forgot to take it from the freezer and ended up with pork loin steaks instead, so it's chicken for me tomorrow! Starting at 9.30 in the morning and I'm Devi etley feeling tired and achy this evening

@Mayhip8 all the best for today.mit will be good for you to hear what your OS says and possibly set your next date, so fingers crossed.:tada:
@ahipgma thank you too for your good wishes. Onwards and upwards my hippy sisters xx:yahoo:

@Mayhip8 hoping today was positive. Any news on hip #2? :fingersx:
Work wise things don't change and all my plans went out the window when a semi crisis occurred and I ended up working 4.5 hrs rather than 3 to make sure everything was OK and I've had to have a rest, ice my thigh and a nap on getting home!:ice:
Hope all is good with you both @Mayhip8 and @ahipgma , have a good evening xx:flwrysmile:

Look at the time!!!
I've had a day and a half - can't say I feel very positive @ChrissyW @ahipgma
Left for my 15.30 appointment at 14.45
Arrived at 15.15 - walked quite a way to the department
The chairs were too low for me to sit on and whilst one lovely old gent offered me his higher seat I basically ended up standing until I was seen by the nurse specialist at 16.55.( Not my consultant as I'd expected )
Her words were " I always feel sorry for the last on the list as we are always late to see them"
As I was ushered into a room- with a low chair.
The nurse didn't actually listen to me as she answered her own questions! I had to rephrase/ repeat/ be direct in the end as she appeared to be distracted , evasive and in a rush .
She did ask me to stand on one leg, checked my leg movement and look at my wound -all ok but she seemed surprised I was in pain! Although it was only a 2/3 at the time and didn't bother me!
she said she'd plan for me to be seen in 3 months, then suggested I would have to wait a further 12 weeks for surgery.
When I explained the consultant had previously discussed otherwise she ( finally) checked my notes and has asked me to make appointment with consultant for four weeks time.
Aww I feel like I've wasted my time- her time- the NHS time
I have no new information- I asked what I can and can't do now and she said " you can't do anything for another 6 weeks ( but didn't stipulate what 'anything' was!)! If I wasn't a nurse I'd dread to think what patients who have less ability to voice their questions do . I have sick note for another six weeks .
I am in pain from standing up so long ( both hips are bad tonight)
I did nip into the supermarket on the way home to pick up the oven I ordered ( well hubby did!)
And headed straight for the chocolates and cakes aisle ( like that will solve it all)
So IM finally home - showered - eaten, back in nest and wondering if I should post this or pretend that alls rainbow and unicorns !
It's not
I'm fed up
But I'll be fine again soon I know ..
Apologies and thanks in equal quantities

So glad to see your post, but sorry you had a bad day. After all the lead up to this day and hoping for answers.
You had your hip done 7 days after I did and I know that we are all so different
We know it as nurses and we are told it over and over at BS-- but I was released from my hip precautions and told I was able to sleep any way that is comfortable.
It would have been nice to get the official blessing for that stuff today, after waiting patiently. I am at a loss about the NHS but can you somehow follow up and get your questions answered and a way going forward? I hope so, but all I can do is give you a cyber hug and say I'm here.:console2:
PS. In my experience, chocolate never hurts.

Thankyou @ahipgma
You understand where I'm coming from and that means so much to me . And such a comforting cyber hug too:friends:
I haven't really slept - just keep mulling over why I reacted so negatively .
Pain and disappointment I guess. I also like being in control- or rather don't like not to be in control. It's a safety thing I think?!
Anyway I've just come back t bed after being downstairs and watching the day start .two comforting, cups of tea and some zapain means I'll grab some rest now before I get up , dust myself down and start the day again .
@ChrissyW I hope that you managed some rest and feel ok to be back in work today ? Take care
Thanks for, popping by and I'll no doubt post later :loveshwr:

The first thing I've done on getting ip is check in here. I'm so sorry @Mayhip8 that you got such a lack lustre appointment . What you describe just doesn't sound acceptable at all. I was told I still needed to take it easy for the next 6 weeks but not the don't do anything reply, key restrictions (bending and twisting most importantly and those he said potentially a bit after too) maintained and he was ok to let me work as long as I only did limited hours. I was shown my pre and post X-rays too. Can you speak to your GP just to express the fact you feel less than confident in the appointment and the fact there were no appropriate seats and she told you incorrect info, having to check after you replied isn't a good reflection of standards of care. Sometimes we don't complain enough.
You make sure you enjoy the chocolate and. She. Like @ahipgma said it never goe

What happened there!:flabber:
Chocolate and cake never hurts @Mayhip8 enjoy it!
I was restless and I'm sure I was on the doorstep of the ODIC if not in it yesterday! I'm hoping today proves less problematic as it felt a bit like being in a disaster movie ( or carry on film) yesterday and it was definetly a what could go wrong did from start to finish ( including nearly losing 2 students who were supposed to be on a visit! Hence not being able to leave until I'd found out exactly where they were and let them know the problems they'd caused!) imagine what could have been news headlines!!
Ladies today may be dull, wet and a Wednesday but we are the strong, hippy sisters so we can do this. @Mayhip8 ill be checking on you when I get home so make sure you eat cake for me too ( by the way what type am I virtually eating today?)
Massive hugs my lovelies:friends::console2:

@ChrissyW - lock those children indoors!! Tag them and micro chip them .... Bet that's not allowed ?! I hope they bring you at least two apples in today! Each. How very dare they ?
Seriously though What a scare you must have had - look how well you dealt with it with your Titanium hip and nerves of steel . Stong indeed. I hope today I'd kinder to you.
The cake you are mainly eating is ....custard tart... The chocolate you are eating is organic ginger 70 %dark chocolate . And copious amounts of tea . Enjoy
Stay safe
Laters xxxxx

So a quick update
I've spoken to the consultants secretary
Didn't get very far! It seems the consultant is away and maybe for some time - not asked why as its not my business but it might explain why everyone is being evasive or vague?!
We made tentative arrangement for a follow up in four weeks - with no guarantee I'll see the surgeon (in which case follow up will be cancelled) or have surgery in the near future .
Guess I'll have to just wait and see!
I'd built myself up so much for surgery on my other hip
It might yet happen
It might not
It's not even a tragedy/ life threatening/ life changing situation- just that I'd absorbed the original plan and psyched myself up - now I feel up in the air and out of control of the situation .
And the cake has gone
But I've made a healthy chicken soup for tea
So that can't be all bad :catbutterfly:

Waiting for that illusive date is SO frustrating. I called my surgeon's medical secretary literally every week for months before I got a date. I felt like I knew her once she finally called with the actual information. Squeaky wheel and all that.

@Mayhip8 maybe your surgeon is having thr? :censored:Joking aside glad you managed to get some info, albeit not very advantageous or confirmatory as to what next. Well today no children were misplaced so I shall rate that a good day! You would think 27/18 year olds would be less trouble but I beg to differ with anyone who would argue that point! May I add how did you know when you purchased both custard tart and chocolate with ginger that they are my favourites and can I add I thoroughly enjoyed them! Have you ever had the Portuguese version of custard tart, the pastel de nata, yummy yummy! Chocolate wise I had treated myself to some 70%chocolate over the weekend but clearly both my boys enjoyed it too so it didn't last however I must say there have been treats st work, which I must learn to resist bug today I had a treat size pack of mini chocolate fingers, a treat size pack of squishes ( they are really nice and I think that is what they were called) a Bourbon biscuit and a custard cream along with 3 coffees and a tea, and lots of students asking how I was. It felt nice ( oh and the treats tasted nice too!) I do hope you feel a bit more positive, think of it like this one down and well on the way to recovery, more time to be a domestic goddess and a group of warrior hippy sisters (and brothers so as not to be discriminatory) all behind you. I wish I had a little magic wand to sort it all out for you but like @Jaycey did, push, pester and persevere xxx:tantrum2:
