THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

@ahipgma good to hear positive news and how are you feeling about August? Is that a good time? Just think how you'll be dancing the night away this coming new year! There be no stopping you. I wonder if that's what your husband might be thinking too ( nudge nudge wink wink if you know what I mean!)
Well you'll be the party animal on the riviera trip so. @Mayhip8 Hope your days been good. You must have inspired me as I dusted the dining room furniture and some of the glassware on the cabinet too!
Xxx

I love the way a day ebbs and flows - @ahipgma great news about your next hip-op . How do you feel about it?
And the green light for sleeping too! excellent .. Want to crack a joke but I'll wait till my turn :rotfl:
This might be a daft question but will he be able to make sure the length of your other leg will match? (The surgeon!)
My ye olde leg is shorter I feel - Do yours feel 'equal' at the moment?
Your mum and husband are Virgo's - known for perfectionism, practical, clean, fastidious... We have a lot in common - I'm a Virgo too! I've been known to hoover and clean my surroundings to calm me! Then I discovered Prosecco :martini:
I'd like to say I'm pleased I inspired you to dust and polish as long as it was a positive experience-( I used to love cleaning my mums glass cabinet with years of heirlooms and knick knacks -It was a treat of a job in school holidays as a child) @ChrissyW - on the Riviera I hope to inspire us all to dance and celebrate!
Where shall we meet ? :dancy::yay::SUNsmile:

Hi @ChrissyW and @Mayhip8
In in answer to both your questions yes I am ok with it!
Not really afraid of the surgery but the complications that may happen after --- blood clot, infection, dislocation
But all I can do is do what I'm told and take the precautions I need to just like last time.
All restrictions lifted but sure dont feel 100% yet, I think we all know this is a 2 steps forward one step back journey, but what would our alternative be? Dear Chrissy you must have suffered for years if it was a congenital thing . For me its just been the last 4 with conservative treatment that just didn't work after a while.
But as you know, @Mayhip8 though I have other ailments of the senior citizen, hypertension, arthritis, and a bunch of little other stuff,
Having a big surgery like this if you are really elderly, diabetic, heart disease, what they call comorbidity here makes surgery a lot riskier.
I'm better to get it now. Also with our insurance our payments for healthcare are caught up for this calendar year ( which amounted to thousands, thank God we had savings) if I were to wait till 2020 it would start all over again rather than it be covered by insurance for the remainder of the year.
So a long answer to a very concise question!
Do you both have a set time to be re evaluated and restrictions lifted? Especially you, Chrissy, once yours are lifted they're gone forever!!!
Yippee!
Now as to the Riviera question I say Monaco and more specifically Monte Carlo, what is more jet setting than that.
Anyway if I were to say "breast or leg " to my hub like Grace said to Cary and he knows my restrictions are lifted uh- oh!
He may start chasing me and with these hips I could never outrun him! See you at the casino!!!!

Oh to answer your specific question @Mayhip8, my legs were under 2 cm difference at first and now he feels they're equal
But he said in any case he could even me out with the next surgery. My understanding is that when it's a deliberate difference it's for postop tension and better fit and healing of the new prosthesis. He also told me often the new hip feels longer because the arthritic hip shortens up with the missing cushioning and then is made right with the new hip I definitely felt a difference at first but now much better.

Monte Carlo works for me, the cafe de Paris seems to do afternoon tea ( with champagne if course) and then we could make it an evening in the casino. I think we deserve champagne all the way. Crystal or Dom Perignon, only the best for us! would you prefer to meet there or shall we get a private jet?:happydance:
Now with a sensible head I'm interested in whether my legs are equal. I don't know before, I had such a severe limp for the last 8 months, getting to the point I was so embarrassed to go anywhere because of how I walked. Now I must say they feel different, bit like I'm conscious of having a leg, probably because if the achy, strange feeling thigh issue so I'm curious to see if they are the same length. For some strange reason my I operated thigh feels spasm tonight, what's going on!
:chinstroke:

@ahipgma - brings a whole new meaning to the phrase I used on Monday " Winner winner Chicken ( breast/leg) dinner "
I can't begin to imagine the pressure you must feel with having health insurance to pay
I worked in the private sector in the early part of my nursing career when care was financed by individuals or company benefits and not the NHS ( by choice for those patients) I recall the massive cost of the most basic things - especially having to keep audit stickers from the used items so we could charge per item during an emergency -it was surreal - I Also had private treatment as I had health insurance as a benefit and recall the cold blood running through my veins when I recieved the bills for test/consultant/ anaesthetic etc..
We are beyond blessed to have healthcare free at point of delivery ( though we encourage cost consciousness and awareness in the ever pressured NHS )
I did wonder if your treatment is covered under "one year" insurance in which case it makes absolute sense to have it done - but actually clinically you need it ASAP don't you?
Then you can feel as free as you can to run (or not) when hubby wants to play " catch a girl kiss a girl!"

I think these pains are going to take longer to settle than I thought- I too watched a video of the surgery ( held my breath ) and yes- it's making sense that it's still early days! And the benefits will be so very very worth it .

I'd say a bottle of each @ChrissyW - to Start off with!!! I'm happy to join the jet set or meet at The Cafe de Paris . I just know we're going to have a fabulous time!

Well,
After my OS appointment I did some shopping. 2 hours worth and my new hip complained! But it's a sore achy muscle feeling ,--when I first had my surgery I could swear I felt that new prosthesis taking up space in my femur! Strange feelings for sure but the PA today said that's to be expected for only 6 weeks out
When you see your OS he can easily tell about the leg length. OS just kind of eyeballed them while holding on to them.
But @ChrissyW you look beautiful in your sleek gown and your legs look the same length in it!
As @Mayhip8 said as she discovered Prosecco, no anxieties tonight--maybe a little anxious at the roulette table!
Dom perignon really takes the edge off, Doesnt it and isn't that the cabana boy at the blackjack table?
The Mediterranean air is so refreshing
I'm sure we'll all sleep like babies after we retire for the night after winning our fortunes.
So as my dinner time comes and your bedtime approaches I want to say it is so nice to travel with you:friends: and sweet dreams tonight:sleeep::sleeep:you two!

Ladies! What a stunning evening In such a divine location.
You both looked splendid in your outfits- Who'd have guessed the dresses would have been so similar and complimented each other yet so personal to you both.
I felt like a million dollars enjoying your company, the atmosphere and the champagne - and what a great co-oncidence to bump into the Obamas who arrived later last night! It's a pity I didn't win the big money in the casino but I had great fun at the tables and as an old colleague of mine used to say " You can't be lucky in love and money" ( I'd only spend it anyway!!).:happydance::loveshwr:

Happy Friday ladies:SUNsmile:. My thigh hurt last night so didn't sleep as well as the last couple of nights. Having looked through this site I think it related to the psoas but on a positive I went for coffee and wore an old pair of trousers that I'd put to give away as they are a bit big ( I usually wear very skinny jeans) but because they were looser I wire them and looked normal! So pleased to have been out of lounging style pants.
Hope you have both had good days and had peaceful nights. Love and hugs:loveshwr: xx

 I posted a message earlier but it's not been moderated and so I don't know if you can see it?
On a different note
I read a link earlier that said pain was at its most acute at week 6-7
Here's a screen shot ..
I am approaching week six and I have really strange groin /inner thigh bone pain- I'm sure it's Because I overdid it - I rested yesterday but it's there worse today - I have been up and about and can't sit in a chair for long at all Thought it was worth noting this as it might help understand
I'm off to nap now as I'm tired as my Lovley nephew visited me this afternoon
Stay comfy ladies

Hello!
Was looking for you both and didn't see any alerts but here you both are! Must be something up with the site. So glad to see we made it back from our Riviera jaunt.
I guess my OS appointment made me careless or something because I overdid it yesterday and boy did I pay.
I was actually a little scared because the pain was everywhere groin, thigh, knee
And right after I scheduled the next one too!!! I iced like crazy and rested all day today and thank goodness its better.
I read that post about 6-7 weeks with interest and it makes sense and here we all are.
What really makes sense is that our muscles are stiff from not having full range of motion preop and now we're stressing them and from being manipulated and incised during surgery.
Glad you got out @ChrissyW any little trip feels good and gets your mind onto other things.
@Mayhip8 do you notice the difference between the pain in one leg and on the other? My postop hip really feels more muscular and tissue pain than bone pain which gives me hope for improvement.
There is a YouTube channel called "talking with docs" by 2 OSs thatanswers a question about postop hip pain.
Hope in spite of it all you have some nice weekend plans?
I might slowly start to garden a little more
and am going out to dinner with my mom later. Shes 87 so we move at the same speed.
Better days ahead my dears!

Well hello @Mayhip8 . I wondered where everyone was today and your earlier post doesn't seem to have appeared. Interesting re the pain levels. I've been trying to reduce my painkillers as that's what the doctor had adviced when they gave me the last repeat prescription for the tramadol. What are you taking now? I had already thought I would take a tramadol at tea time today, as well as bedtime and during the night so really one extra because when I saw the PT he mentioned that taking tramadol for pain may raise the question regarding bring ready to drive (so insurance companies may say if you still need tramadol for pain are you really ready to drive). Now I feel a bit confused but I will speak to the OS on Monday. How are you feeling overall today? Nice to have had a bit of sunshine too, did you get some? I wonder how @ahipgma is today.:spin:(I so like this emoji!!)

Good to see you @ChrissyW
I take 440 mg of naproxen (with a prilosec to protect my stomach) in the am
And 1 gm of tylenol in the pm.
This has been my regime for 3 weeks.
With our opioid crisis over here I can imagine how many people are out on the road under the influence but we who may need it because of a hip surgery are questioned. Hmmm. But I was told at 2 weeks, if I was off the narcotics I could drive. Between us though, Chrissy, I would take 1/2 a 50 mg tramadol at bedtime 930pm -ish and next am would drive with no other narcs all day till bedtime again.
Hope you get some answers, my friend!:dancy: using another emoji I personally could never do.....

Oh ! I can't quote from earlier message?
I hope I've not broken any rules?!

I'm on Paracetamol 4gm in 24 hours
And back up to codeine 120- 150 mg in 24 hrs although yesterday I probably had more codeine ( prescribed up to 240 mg/24 hours but have never usually taken that much .)
I usually take something every four hours so divide the doses up accordingly.
And Daizepam 2mg at night -tiny dose! Just to curb muscle spasm in right hip
And a smidge of strong voltarol gel on my right outer hip every other night
I slept ok ish last night - woke and was up at 05.30 .
I did put a fleecy blanket underneath me instead of lying directly on the sheet last night as I felt tender all over and it felt scrumptious
I also went back to using two crutches earlier today but by this evening I'm walking with one or none again.
( To think that only two weeks after my surgery I was taking hardly any pain relief as I thought I was meant to come off them !! )
I think tramadol is one of the listed medications that you are warned not to drive if you are affected @ChrissyW under the new drug driving laws that came in last year? It should state something such like that on the label or on the information leaflet inside ? Is that what Physio meant I Wonder?
I had a lovely afternoon as my nephew came and told me all about his trip to the states with his girlfriend but I was in pain just sitting - I don't know if anxiety -because I overdid it on Wednesday- has lowered my tolerance to,pain?!
I'm off to warm up in a hot shower today - it's grey and raining and cold here so I'm snuggling in my nest and hubby is bringing me Heinz tomato soup and cheese on toast later for supper ( comfort food!!)
My daughter had another friend sleeping over so it's going to be a giddy old night!
I'll pop back later lovelies xxx

@Mayhip8 i actually had Heinz tomato soup followed by a cinammon and raisin bagel at lunchtime and it was really nice. Having a curry delivered shortly, my regular no fat prawn bhuna, lovely!

Sorry @ahipgma I omitted to answer your enquiry
My post op pain is tissue /muscle pain with occasional nerve/ thigh bone - but tonight it's in my groin- like a swelling ( nothing visible or palpable) I can walk with varying degrees of discomfort
My arthritis pain is in all of my upper right hip/ outer hip -and bone on bone sticking in acetabulum/femoral head area - I get cramp in the muscle which locks it into the hip joint which means I have to manually stretch my leg to free it out of the spasm- it's very awful especially in the night when it come on suddenly .I just can't wait to get this done
I'm sort of getting my head around an extended recovery - sort of like being on maternity leave but for growing myself not a baby!. I read lots of posts that hinted or alluded to a six week recovery however I didn't factor in my particular circumstances.
We'll see- I overdid again it but I'll get it back - forever learnings!!
Have a comfortable evening
And a cheery emoji :bicycle1:

Good morning beautiful people
The sun is out Yey!!!
I slept fairly well Yey!!!
My pain is less scary this morning - sort of clicks/snappy in my groin- no other red flags so Im guessing it's tendons settling .
I have no plans for this weekend
My daughter has her freind over
My son is volunteering at a local museum
My hubby is mending his classic landy and then out to a rally tomorrow
I'd normally be working
Oh!oh! Boredom approaching..... I'd better have a plan before I do myself a mischief.....
I hope you have a comfortable fun type of day

there appears to be a ghost in the machine!!!!
