This is my week, left TKR 1/25 at 10:00AM. I’m nervous but yet anxious to be able to walk again without all the pain these last several months. The burning in the knee has become worse the last couple of weeks. I know if I don’t have the surgery it will probably go into my hip, then I may be looking at hip surgery.

I thought about asking my Dr to take x-rays of my right knee when I go for my 3 week follow up so that I’ll have an idea how long before I’ll need a right TKR. The right knee is starting to make cracking sounds every time I move now, which tells me it may not be far behind. I don’t want to wait as long as the left knee. Hopefully I’ll be one step ahead by having the right knee checked ASAP.

I had hoped to hear about good results and positive post op feedback that would definitely put me a little more at ease before Thursday. All the best to those post op and good luck to all upcoming TKR. I hoping I will feel well enough to update by Friday 1/26. If not when I come home which I’m hoping for Saturday 1/27 or at least by Sunday 1/28/18. Then I can start my recovery and hopefully by spring be up and around.

I love gardening and hope I will be able to enjoy my flowers this year. Plus plans to travel in April to the ocean front for a week. I also am looking forward to my daughter having our granddaughter in July. A lot of very near future plans.

Best of luck to you! I'll be right behind you on the 29th, and I also have a new granddaughter coming! Lots to look forward to on our new knees!

rbabycks,
All the best on the 25th.

Here are the recovery guidelines, to give you a head start on the guidelines. The articles are short and will not take long to read.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
don't overwork.
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Best of British before you know where you are it will be all over..

Only a couple of days to go!
I know if I don’t have the surgery it will probably go into my hip
To put your mind at ease, it really doesn't work like this. Arthritis isn't catching and it doesn't spread from joint to joint. Each joint has a history of its own. Nothing is inevitable.

Thank you Agnes for the encouraging words. Good luck to you on the 29TH. Thank you pumpkin for all the wonderful advice and thank you ertuck. It is nice to have others to turn that know actually what these surgeries are all about. It’s a bit difficult to explain to those who have not gone through the same. I plan to spend Wednesday with my hair stylist, she’s going to pamper and help me relax. At least I’ll go to the hospital Thursday morning with a new hairstyle, easy to maintain and a mani/ pedi,French being they emphasize being able to see toes and nails, coloring. I look forward to being pampered but I’ll be closer to surgery. I’ll also be closer to getting it done and start recovering. Hopefully I will be home by the 28TH. I will update my progress as soon as I’m feeling up to it.

Thank you Josephine for putting me at ease. I believe it will be a RTKR next. Hopefully not for at least a year. I’m not as brave as some having both knees done at the same time or even a few months apart. I want to see how the left knee goes. I have been experiencing some hip pain lately. I’m hoping this is temporary. Time will tell. One body part at a time is the best I can do.
