THR Elementary teach waiting/dying till surgery

As always, there are some great ideas here. We talk about ice being our best friend after surgery, but if you're not already using it regularly now, give it a try. Gel packs can be made from corn syrup, double bagged, and kept at school for use throughout the day. Best of luck!!!

    THR Moving right along

Thanks for the good wishes! Progress has been slower than I was expecting--definitely a local train, not an express, but headed in the right direction. I'm confident that all will be well as more time passes.

    THR Day 1 surgery day

Sounds like you're on the road to recovery, cetch 1! I found the first 4 days were much harder than I was expecting but then things began to improve. Getting pain under control was a challenge and was definitely the key to feeling better. As others have said, ice, ice, ice. Be kind and...

THR Tomorrow's the Big Day! THR

Love your analogy--it seems spot on! We all worry about how we will manage to get through--for me it's about loss of control and being dependent on others. You will be so happy when you are on the other side of this adventure. Best of luck with the surgery and recovery!

THR 70 years old - needing another hip replacement

Hi, Blue Light! I've just rejoined this site because I'm having THR later this month. I'm 74 and not overly concerned about my age being a problem.. Your Drs--both primary and surgeon--will be on the look out for any factors that would be a problem. Having confidence in your medical team will...

    THR Moving right along

Thanks for the welcome. I did post for quite a while as "Sticker Lady" back in 09-10. It is my right hip and I'm already finding wonderful info as I knew I would! I thought I'd registered as "Hip Sticker Lady" but I seem to be a Lad now...

    THR Moving right along

In May 2009 I had BTKR and found this site very helpful and encouraging. Just decided to go ahead with THR and Dr scheduled it for Jan. 22. It will be here before I know it and there are so many things I will need to do to make the experience go as well as possible. I know that BoneSmart is the...

    Happy Day!

Today is truly a happy day--My BTKR was one year ago today. I'm so very happy with the results. For those of you who are struggling with your recovery--have faith and hang in there. It is a difficult recovery and it is easy to become depressed, but the end result is worth the time and...

    Choosing a Physical Therapy Center

Hi Rachell! I had BTKR last May and this is what I experienced: I was in the hospital for 3 days, after which I went to a rehab facility at another hospital for 5 days. The rehab was great--two 1/2 hour units each of PT and OT, as well as 1/2 hour each of upper and lower body exercises each...

Crystal just stopping by to say.....

Crystal-- What a pleasure to drop in at Bonesmart and read your post! You were such a wonderful mentor when I was waiting for my surgery and during the months of recovery. Thanks, again, for all your support! We had 15 family members staying at the house over Christmas and although I...

    Trouble months four and five...why?

Lissa-- I hope that the replies from the other Bonesmarties have made you feel better. This is a tough and LONG recovery, but you are going to be fine. Max made a very good point (IMO) about all the other body parts not being "new" and making their age known. I really overdid things at...

    Back Ache

Hi Everyone! Back several months ago there was a thread that talked about getting new shoes. Our old shoes have wear patterns based on the way we used to walk and that has changed. It may be that just changing shoes may help your back pain. Just a thought--hope it helps. Blessings, Irene

    Hard Time straightening leg

Hi Rhonda! Lots of folks have had a tough time straightening their legs. One of the things I saw recomended was to lay on your belly with your leg extended off the side of the bed and let gravity do the work. Start for a very brief time and add time as you can tolerate it. Some folks added...
