TKR Not sure how to feel...

Hi Micha - I had my LTKR on 9/25 and I am still taking pain meds, resting, elevating and icing. I am doing my exercises twice a day and doing PT 3 times a week. Using a cane and I don't feel comfortable going without the cane when out. I have to keep reminding myself we are each different in...

TKR Less swelling more knee buckling

Josephine - thanks for the information/advice and the link to exercises. I have been doing all of those exercises in the past 3 weeks and I will continue doing them, increasing my reps over time. I will continue to move forward to build my confidence with walking. I really appreciate the...

TKR Less swelling more knee buckling

Celle - II used a walker upon departure from the hospital and for the first 3 weeks. Your suggestion may be what I should do, return to using the walker until my muscles are stronger. I do think the swelling was supporting the knee. I hoped for less swelling since I had been doing so well with...

TKR Less swelling more knee buckling

I am sure my quad muscles are not as strong as they should be. I am at 105 flexion and my leg is almost straight and this is what concerns me. When the knee buckled a few times over the first 4.5 weeks I just chocked it up to muscle weakness. Yesterday's multiple times buckling is what freaked...

TKR Less swelling more knee buckling

I am approaching 5 weeks LTKR post-op. I have been using a cane and walking has been good. Still on Norco 5/325 (2 every 6 hrs) for the pain/swelling. Started outpatient PT last week (3xwk) and have been getting great movement. I have been focused on rest, elevate and ice faithfully and...

    Leg feels on fire

Mary, my leg has been numb along the IT band since surgery and I have experienced some pain along this area where it felt like the muscle was being squeezed. It does seem to be nerve endings gone wild. Maybe from all the sitting/laying from resting/elevating has brought this on?? The pain med...

    Leg feels on fire

Jaycey - my pain level has been very low from post-surgery day one until now. I have felt so blessed. Pain meds were taken every 6 hr because pain level was low. I have been icing and elevating. I get up to go to the bathroom, eat my meals, do some exercises and some short walks around the...

    Leg feels on fire

Pain meds (2 Norco) at 11pm. Awoke at 2am for restroom break. Awoke at 5am for restroom break and felt electric shocks in thigh down to knee getting out of bed. Managed to get out of bed and pain gone. Used walker to head to bathroom and upon walking to return to bed leg felt as if it were...

Dulcimer Diva - thanks for confirmation about the electric shock type sensations. It is good to hear this is normal. Not feeling very normal these days.

    TKR Strange new pain

Train wreck - most of the exercises I am able to do without pain. Lifting my leg up and off the bed is painful. I am able to hook the right foot under the left ankle when getting into and out of bed. Not quite able to lift it up without pain. I try to stay elevated and iced, but it seems so...

    TKR Strange new pain

Josephine - my IT band from the thigh to the knee feels like it has a rubber and around it and my leg is also numb along that same area. I was sent home with a CPM machine and I wonder if this stressing the IT band. Very frustrating to me. Such a weird sensation. I have also noticed that when...

    TKR Strange new pain

Hi Maryo52 - thanks for your post. I have been taking Norco every 6 hours for pain. As I said, I have been blessed to have not had much pain. Many times taking the pain meds @ 6'hrs even though I did not have much pain, maybe a "2". I had not taken pain meds before going to sleep around...

    TKR Strange new pain

I am just over a week post-op. I have been very lucky to not have had much in the way of pain. I figured it was because off so much swelling (purple leg from the top of leg onto my feet). Had the staples taken out yesterday. This morning pain woke me up at 5am. Took 2 Norco, pain subsided...

    Surgery tomorrow, 9/27

Hi Nana, I am at 2 days post LTKR and going home from the hospital tomorrow. I, too, was apprehensive to have the surgery, but I wanted quality of life again. I know that I have a long road of PT ahead of me, but am feeling good thus far. Hope that it all turned out well.
