Surgeons suggestion: it takes a whole year for pain and swelling to subside.

I did contact my surgeon earlier this week regarding leg pain.
They said to slow down & rest a week or two.
So I did. After 4 days of minimal walking I have much less discomfort.
And I’m thankful.
It takes a full year to heal from THR. Trying to make it sink into my brain.
3 weeks post-op L THR. Heres all that’s going on. Finally at day 19 I had first post op Dr appointment. He said start using a cane. Up till now it was a walker. I can return to driving at Day 21. ( left hip replacement so my right leg can do the driving)

On day 7 post op I noticed the back of my thigh from the incision to back of my knee is a complete purple bruise. After getting over the shock I then worry about my knee. I’m now at day 12 post op. The knee is very swollen and sore all the way around . I wear knee high TED hose.
At the hospital I was given 4 gel/ice pacs and 1 pouch that holds 2 of the gel/ice packs. These are alternately frozen so I have ice available all the time. These I use all the time except when standing/walking. I move the pac around my leg and foot as needed.
Day 12 post op L THR.
One night in hospital then home next evening. The first 6 days post op not bad.
Twice with PT the first week, now I’m on my own. ‘They’ said walk every hour. So long.
