    Dovcar's 2nd Knee Replacement--Dec. 16 2009

Ha, I mean 2009! We haven't even got to 2010 yet.

    6 months out still hurting.....BAD!!!

So sorry to hear your difficulties. I am no expert but my OS would not do any surgery on my knees (partials) but only total knee. He and I waited almost 5 years before I just about crawled into his office. He explained that TKR work best on knees that had no prior surgeries. I'm sure it...

    Dovcar's 2nd Knee Replacement--Dec. 16 2009

Hi, I haven't been on this board for a while because I've been out running around so much. :D I had my second knee done 4 months after my first and all went very well. It was a bit easier knowing what to expect ...what I call those dreaded 8 weeks but then sunshine and smiles (we hope). It...

    2 weeks after double TKR

Re: 2 weks after double TKR Welcome, MelP. So glad you posted. You sound like you are doing well. I did my knees one at a time so I've been through this twice. Sleep is a big problem for most of us at some time or other. Are you taking your full meds? I was able to take oxicodine at...

    Facing Fear

I'm note sure how to help you overcome your fear but my doctor said that I made extraordinary progress with my recovery (twice) because I had "no fear" and just stepped onto my knee without any hesitancy. I guess I was too dumb to have fear. I was just so happy to be "done" with the surgery...

    Pain and Hot Knee.

Hi Jayne - Sit and ice, sit and ice, lay down and ice. If you need to go slow then go slower. If you are walking around the house, you may have to do more of nothing. I thought I'd go crazy but after 3-4 week of nothing the swelling reduced greatly. Best wishes. Hope LTKR Feb 23, 2009 RTKR...

    Hot Knee/Torn Calf (1)

Re: Really Hot Knee Kim - So sorry to hear it has been so hard for you but glad the doc is working with you on it. Get some rest for healing. Don't forget to sit and do nothing for about a week. Tell all that you are in "recovery" and can't stand to do anything. They can pretend you are in...

Now what happens AFTER a TKR!

Colleen - Knee surgery without morphine. Now that is impressive even if you were crying the whole time. What idiots! It is no wonder you were in such pain when you got home. Take your meds regularly don't save it. I didn't have any problems getting refills from my OS and if you do then talk...

    twice blessed

Thanks all for posting. At seven weeks today, I notice that I'm able to stand more and more. I was able to stand at mirror and brush my hair without sitting down in my bedroom chair. Then I stood in my driveway and talked to my neighbor for 15 minutes without pain. Hey, it's the little...

    Almost 2 years after surgeries

I'd say find another doctor. Maybe a GOOD physical therapist could help too. My second one (not the first) was so helpful, she listened and had good advice that helped a lot. Don't forget to talk with your primary care doctor too. Hope LTKR Feb 23, 2009 RTKR June 8, 2009

    twice blessed

Dawnie - The great odds are that you'll be so glad you did this ...maybe not initially but even in a few weeks you you'll be on the road to a new you. Looks like your going for 2 at once which many others have done successfully. Just plan to take your meds (don't skimp), rest a lot, and ice...

    ROM measurement

My thoughts... the ROM is ability to bend the leg from a straight position of 0 degrees; thus, 90 degrees is a right angle and 120 degrees is an addition 30 degrees of bend. The measurement is normally taken laying on your back on a table but is more clearly understood when sitting in a chair...

    twice blessed

Hi Lou - Once you get past the initial tough few weeks, you'll be glad to have both knees strong and healthy. Knee #2 is a bit easier since we know what to expect but I found it a bit harder to "go slow" this time. I'm glad I did them separate but close together. Just a few more weeks for you...

Now what happens AFTER a TKR!

Re: Now what happends AFTER a TKR! Hi Colleen - I'm at 6 weeks post op with my second knee. Yep, I did this twice! As all has said, take your meds (full dose) and ice. You are not a baby at all. This recovery just HURTS like crazy, particularly the first few weeks. Use the walker as much...

    twice blessed

It is so nice sharing good news. Thanks for reaching out to me. Glad I could add a bit of HOPE to others. I am so pleased with my dual knees now. I went to Target with my daughter (age 25) this morning but kept it to a short trip (half the store). There is still a lot of soreness but not...
