make them a meal scheduler website People have asked me what has been the most important thing that has helped my recovery, and I can say without a doubt that it has been the website www.takethemameal.com. One of my friends set up a schedule for my family; a meal is brought to us by a friend...

TKR Ten Days On the Other Side

Hi Smarties, I am just about to hit the 5 week mark and my recovery seems to be going exactly as the dr expected. I am walking around the house unassisted but still using my cane when I leave the house. I drove today for the first time, only 3 miles but it was a great accomplishment for me...

    Take Them a Meal

People have asked me what has been the most important thing that has helped my recovery, and I can say without a doubt that it has been the website www.takethemameal.com. One of my friends set up a schedule for my family; a meal is brought to us by a friend on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Once...

TKR Ten Days On the Other Side

Thanks for the encouraging words! I am now at 3 weeks and have started outpatient physical therapy. PT is having me "rock" on bike (not make a full rotation), straight leg lifts laying on my side, leg lift sitting on side of bed (bent knee to extended knee), slight squats while holding onto a...

TKR Ten Days On the Other Side

Hi Smarties, My RTKR was on March 27 and I am 10 days on the other side now. I wanted to chronicle a few things about my road to recovery because, as I was reminded many times on the Pre-Op site, this process varies greatly from one person to another. I was discharged from the hospital on...

    Shin Pain???

Hi Holly, I am having a RTKR tomorrow morning, and my pain has been in the knee as well as other areas of my leg. If I sit too long with my knee bent at 90 degrees I get shooting pain down my shin and into my ankle and foot. Dr. says this is normal for a knee as damaged as mine.

What items did you find you needed most?

Having RTKR on March 27. My OS gets his patients up the first night, then 2 days of in-hospital PT. I had been going to PT a few months back, and I wore those really stretchy yoga pants. Therapist had no problem getting them pushed up to mid-thigh to do massage and TENS. OS nurse says they want...

Did the Injections work for you? (rooster comb)

I had three rounds of OrthoVisc over a two-year period. Each injection was very helpful and let me put off TKR for a couple of years. Yes, they are expensive but my heath insurance paid in full.

    Planning Work After TKR

You guys have me pretty concerned with this talk of going back to work at 9 weeks. I too am a business owner working from home. My phone will go to voicemail the week I am in the hospital, and I have someone who will take the calls the second week. However, at week 3 I have to get back to it. I...

    Pain Meds pre TKR

I have been taking Lortab 5mg twice a day since October. My doctor explained that taking pain pills for pain is not the same as taking pain pills for the "high" you get from them. If you take a pain pill because you hurt that is fine. If you take a pain pill just because you feel better when you...
