Revision TKR ArmyVet's recovery thread<<

Glad the pain was diagnosed and will go away eventually.

I just wanted to post here and say the most sincere THANK YOU. I believe I have ever spoken to any group of people EVER. I am still recovering, and doing well (I think!), but one night of no sleep due to insomnia sent me to find other knee groups to read. I have NEVER seen so many people that don't listen to their surgeons or their therapists, let alone listen to their own bodies!!! So many people begging for MUA less than 3 months after surgery because they can't bend over 100 degrees. Others that let their therapists put them in pain. People that are in so much hurry to heal that they set themselves backward overdoing it, without listening to their baby knee.

I am so grateful to all of the admins, moderators, @Josephine, @Celle, @lovetocookandsew and anyone along the way that have made me smile or offered any advice. This place has been the best help I could have ever asked for- both physically and mentally!!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

I agree with you, I would have never gone the BS route this time around, if I hadn’t stumbled across this site. BS made this knee replacement so much easier, physically and emotionally

Checking in again.. My scar is healing nicely after the revision, but I have a couple questions. Do they stretch your ligaments when they do a replacement? The sides of my knee where my ligaments are located are very sore and tender to the touch, and that is the only location where I have "heat". No real other pain aside from every now and then with the stem tip pain. Doing pretty well, otherwise. Very little swelling left-- I thought I would never get that all to go away when I couldn't even locate my kneecap after surgery!! For a couple days, I thought my OS forgot to put my kneecap back in!! LOL Extension still 0 or better, flexion 115 or more. It will be 30 days on Friday. I think I'm doing pretty good!!!

I have the same pain either side and tender to the touch. Interested to see the responses. You're doing so well for such a short post op period!

What's the standard for airplane flights after TKR/Revision?? I live in Nashville, but want to fly to Los Angeles on July 25. My revision was June 19... any thoughts??? I emailed my OS, so I will see what he says, just interested in seeing if there are any suggestions for the flight to make it easier on my new parts...

Current update: I had NO problems with my flight-- even with no special seating, I did my exercises in my chair, and walked a couple times to the bathroom and back, and all good!! I got back and wanted to go to a concert that was held at a stadium. I took NO walking aids-no cane, no walker- and had NO problems walking around the entire circumference of the stadium MORE THAN ONCE!! Also did about 20 flights of stairs up and back because it was raining and because of the weather, they kept evacuating us to the concourse and then allowing us back to our seats! But no problems there, either!!! Not bad for about 7 weeks out of my revision!!! No pain from all the exercise, but just a tiny bit of swelling!! I am so happy I am almost back to "normal"!!!

It's great to hear how well your knee is getting on. It's handled activities that might have been too much for it, and has done really well. You and your knee both deserve a gold star. :yes!: :yay: :happydance: :dancy:

I'm so glad for you that everything went well.
It sounds as if your surgeon made a good job of your revision.

I SWEAR it was due to recovering the "Bonesmart" way!!! After 2 visits with my therapist, I decided that I knew what was better for me than she did!! I was 3 days out after surgery and this lady wanted me to already be able to ride a bike so I told them I wasn't coming back and did the bonesmart stuff!! I did what my knee ALLOWED me to do and just a tiny bit more. Iced, elevated and made sure my baby knee was ok!!!

I see my surgeon on Aug 13 so will know my flexion. I already know that I am PAST straight (I've always been able to lock my knees!). I just want to know how much bend I have. I can sit on my heels fine, I just want to know the number!!! I'm not overdoing it. If I start to have some pain or my knee starts to swell I stop, ice and elevate!! It feels fantastic to be "normal" again!!!!

Amazed at "I can sit on my heels". I'd love to try but just not yet :curtsey:

Thanks for sharing your great update. :yay: Let us know how it goes with the OS.

I haven't been able to sit on my heals in years and here you are at less than 2 months out doing it! You are definitely doing something right!

@Josephine or anyone out there with a clue...

Guess what?? My tibial implant is loose again!! I'm meeting with my surgeon to get the info about this new implant they want to put in, but does anyone know what they use or have any info on the possible new part?? My curiosity is getting the best of me, and I don't see the surgeon until Feb 25.

I knew my knee was messed up again, but when I asked the doc to just put his hand on my knee while I moved it, he actually cringed!! This will be the original and now 2nd revision in 3 years. At least I know how to rehab!!

@ArmyVet please note that after many years of service on this site Josephine has retired. We miss her great input but accept she has made the decision.

Are you seeing the same surgeon that did the original TKR and the revision? I think at this point I would want some fresh eyes to take a look. You need a revision specialist.

In terms of what implant will be used - that's a decision only your surgeon can make. They should certainly address why your implants are loosening so quickly!

Are you currently being treated through the VA medical system?

Are you currently being treated through the VA medical system?
Yes and no. Orthopedics couldn't see me in the beginning, so this is being done thru community care at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

And before you ask, no, the VA will not allow a 2nd opinion...
