Could anyone confirm this noise? (video)

Here's a clip from 1-2 months ago, so might be a little worse now. Might need to turn up the volume. Would this defentinly be bone on bone? It doesn't hurt to much right away, it's like 3 mins later when the pain kickes in. Maybe I'm just getting used to the pain lol.


My pain management dr said it's bone on bone rubbing, I just don't get I recently had 2 surgeries on this knee, why woukd it be bone on bone alteady?

I can hear some crepitus, @Mr.ink , but I don't think that's absolutely diagnostic of bone on bone.

An X-Ray would be more help.

Do you have an X-Ray you can post, for @Josephine , our Nurse Director, to look at?

It certainly could be bone on bone. Arthritis is a sneaky little devil and sometimes having multiple surgeries can accelerate the arthritic process of cartilage loss. As Celle says, though, the real indication of what's going on will come with some xrays.

@Celle thank you for the reply. I unfortuantley don't have a picture of the xray at the time.

I go tmrw for a mri, and then waiting on my apointment to see a specialist that my surgeon is sending me to.

@Jamie ohh ok. Yeah I've had 2 surgeries on each knee, one was a patella realignment, the other was hardware removal because of my issues.

But yeah I definitely understand it's hard to tell without seeing the xray.

I'm just hoping the specialist isnt a waste of time. Since its 8 hour round trip. I've done everything so far (more surgeries, shots, pt) so I finally want to get something that will work.

Well, it's not. It's the sound of gristle. If you've ever pulled apart a joint of meat, in the last few stages of it coming apart, you will hear a noise very similar to that. Our joints are, after all, partly gristle.

So I had the MRI today. Just gotta wait till the surgeon calls back to have me come back in for results.

The specialist called today. The surgeon that deals with knee replacement is actually an hour further (5 hours away one way) and is booked until January 29th 2018....
So I have to talk to my surgeon about that. I can't wait that long and deal with that ride back after surgery.

IT is important that you have the best surgeon - one who is skilled at doing knee replacements and does at least a hundred every year.
More than any other factor, the skill of your surgeon is the one thing that has the most e\influence on the success of a knee replacement.

Some people have travelled distances like yours and chosen to stay in a hotel for a while after discharge from hospital, so they can have the best surgeon.

Hi @Celle

I figured I would update you on my "adventure"

So I saw my surgeon last week for the mri results and to let him know about the specialist issue.

He said my mri shows nothing. That he has no idea what's making all the noise/pain. So he switched my anti inflammatory and said to follow up in 6 weeks..... that's all, just left me clueless and annoyed

So I had my pain management apt today, which was withb different doctor. (Turned out being a fellow veteran!)
He said it is defently bone on bone rubbing, that it's severe osteoarthritis.

He told me he doesn't like to rely on imaging for these reasons like mine. That it's to new for it to show it.

So I'm seeing a new surgeon/specialist as soon as they get my med records from my other surgeon.
