Yesterday it was suggested to me by my chiropractor that I take Omega 3 for inflamation.

I do take Iron as I am still low, even after getting 5 units of blood.

I am wondering does anyone take supplements specifically related to their new knee/knees ?

Fish oil with Omega 3 is good for about everything, or so the literature says.

It is used for cardiology patients to decrease inflammation of the arteries..why would it not help with knees. Interestingly, before I had my knee surgeries they specifically mentioned to discontinue Fish Oil and multivitamins. It is also used by mental heath professionals to enhance the activity of antidepressants.

It certainly will not hurt ....one warning is be sure to tell you it can cause you triglycerides to be elevated. Be sure to tell your cardiologist or GP that you are taking it....so they do not have the heart attack when they see your lab results.:hysterical:

Yep. Ditto here, was told to stop all at least 2 weeks before surgery.

I take a "cock tail" of herbs/vits so I stopped all of them 60 days before surgery, just to be sure.

I am adding them back in very slowly and each one will get careful research before I take them again - again just to be sure.

I am on Iron, and will be adding my multi & Omega 3 and that will be all for at least a few weeks. Then I will add my preventive ones I use to hold my hormone related migraines at bay.

I have been thinking about taking probiotics. I wonder if they will interfere with the antibiotics I am already on?

My GP suggested that I take the vitamin---but he also said that if you eat a healthy, well-balanced, you do not need to add supplements.

I take calcium with Vitamin D3 and a multivitamin. I have osteopenia so I have to make sure I get enough dairy and calcium. I don't take them together though, because they counteract each other and will not be absorbed.

Sonja - I would not take the 2 at the same time. I would finish your anit wait a few days and then if you see a need start the pro and see how they work for you. Taking the 2 together can cancel each other out.

I stopped the few that I take, before surgery. I forgot to ask, but was never told not to stay off them. I, too, have osteopenia, so I have to take the calcium/vit D; I also take iron (I tend to run low when I overdo it on the platelet donations - which I will not resume until told by my OS that it's ok); Vitamin D3, due to my D levels bottoming out about 8 months ago; and fish oil/flax/borage - all good for the brain and the heart, according to my GP. I think caution and moderation are they keys here. Good luck!
