Hi all!

I'm excited to have found this site! I've been waiting for knee replacements since I was 17. It's been a long road, but when my surgeon finally said, "OK, it's time," I freaked out!! It's so good to read other folks' experiences & to know there is some good advice out there to be found. THANK YOU!!

I'm looking at a BTKR as soon as I can get approved. Really want to have it this year -- have already hit our out of pocket max for the year. Meeting with my surgeon tomorrow, hence my frantic search of the web.

I'm off to read more & become a better advocate for myself!

:welome: You will find great info here and support as you go through the process.

Well, you are excited! I cannot imagine any doctor condemning a patient in pain to so many years more of it. It's inhuman.

However, you've crossed the great divide now so here's some reading for you. There's more in the Library, of course!

First is the reading - everybody gets a free copy of the recovery reading!

Here are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lay down!

Next is a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) thread.

Hi @Byrnel
I see that Josephine has given you the post-op reading list. That's good.

To help you prepare for your surgery, this might be useful as well:
