TKR 5 weeks out & doc is suggesting manipulation

I had my tkr at aged 39. I was raring to go and progressing really well but at 5 weeks but was recommended Mua to improve flexion. I went with surgeons recommendation as I felt I had trusted him to do the major surgery and so should continue to trust him. I had the Mua a few weeks later and I...

High Impact Replacement for Young Patient

Hi, I was 39 when i had my TKR. my surgeon recommended a knee with a rotating platform. This apparently means there is some turn in the joint which helps if you are more active and also reduces wear so should add to the lifetime of the prosthesis. I was fitted with a du puys sigma with a...

    TKR KathyH New Knee

Hi Kathy, I've not logged on for a while so was sorry to read that you are having problems and need an MUA. As you know I went thru this and found the whole thing a simple and largely painfree exersize that yielded instant results. I had a general anaesthetic but was under for only 10 minutes...

    TKR 6 months post op

DEBBIE - MY SURGEON PUSHED FOR THE MUA AS I HAD A LACK OF FLEXION. OTHER THAN THIS MY RECOVERY WAS VERY SMOOTH. I WAS AT WORK PART TIME WITHIN 3 WEEKS AND FULL TIME WITHIN 5 OF THE OP AND HAVE TAKEN NO PAINKILLERS AT ALL SINCE THE 5TH DAY AFTER THE OP. TO BE HONEST EVEN THE MUA WAS A SIMPLE...

    TKR 6 months post op

I have not posted for a while but have just gone by 6 months post op so thought I would post an update. Generally I have had a really good recovery and 6 months has gone by in a blur of normality with no pain and no restrictions on my life. My recovery has been remarkably smooth with almost no...

    TKR at age 43

I had my left TKR 6 months ago aged 39. My previous surgeon was not keen to do the surgery, so I researched surgeons who specialise in arthritis in younger people. I found someone who was acutely aware of the positives of surgery on younger patients and didnt just focus on the largely mythical...

    New here....TKR soon! Help, please...

Hi Dewey, Everybody worries before this surgery - there would be something wrong with you if you didnt! Everybodies recovery is different but with recurring threads, so as preparation I suggest you read as much as you can on here so nothing will be too much of a surprise. Incidently I was back...

    TKR KathyH New Knee

I was told that the reason PT's recommend little and often and for no more than 20 mins is because ice directly on the skin can cause frostbite if left too long. However if you use the right equipment or use something like a tea towel between the skin and ice you can ice constantly with no problems.

TKR Leisa's 6 months post TKR update

I had MUA at 3 mnths. Was worried about pain and swelling afterwards but found I had neither. Had general anaesthetic but no real drowsiness or sickness after as was only under for 10 minutes so had very little anaesthetic in my system. I walked into the hospital with 75 degrees flexion and out...

    TKR KathyH New Knee

Hi Kathy, We really enjoyed the Cruise and I am sure you will too. We thought drinks were fairly reasonably priced considering that you are a captive audience - a pint of beer is around £3.00 and bottles of wine start from about £13.00. You dont need to smuggle drink aboad as you are allowed...

    OS or PA?

In my experience of orthopaedic surgery in the UK i have only ever dealt with the consultant, an appointment was made thru GP where the consultant put me forward for the surgery. I met consultant briefly on the day of the surgery. he looked in on me after surgery briefly. I had a consultation 4...

    Scheduled the 5th of Sept

Hi Imscared, Good luck with your surgery and try not to worry - from my perspective it is definitely worth it. I am a similar age to you, I had my TKR 4 months ago at the age of 39 and have never looked back, I was in pain pre- surgery and was completely pain free and off pain meds 5 days...

    Sept 4th

Hi Captain, Good luck with your TKR. I am 39 and had a TKR 4 months ago and have never looked back. I was back to work part time in 3 weeks and full time in 5 weeks. I suffered no pain after the first four or 5 days and have taken no pain meds since then. I have been cycling and golfing since...

    TKR KathyH New Knee

Hi Kathy, I have just logged on to see how you are getting on. Keep your chin up, the first couple of weeks are bound to be tough - put your feet up, relax and let someone else do the work. A cruise sounds like something to look forward to - we returned this week from a 2 week P&O cruise in...

    TKR 23/4/2012

RECOVERY UPDATE Had my MUA last week. The whole thing went remarkably well. Had a GA and the procedure at around 11a.m. It only took about 10 minutes so the anaesthetic was light and I came round fairly quickly. I was given some pain killer intraveinously at the end of the procedure and found...

Have a question for Bonesmart Family.

I had my TKR on 23/4/12 and surgeon told me at 4 week appointment that he does an MUA as a matter of course if Flexion was not 90 degrees or more by that point and mine was only 75 degrees. Scheduled a MUA on the basis that if ROM improved whilst I was waiting I could cancel it. ROM didnt...

    TKR Keith55's 2011-2012 Pre-Op Questions

I think when/if you bath will depend on you and your recovery. I was relaxing in a hot bath with a book the day i left the hospital - 4 days after surgery. My operated knee was propped on the side of the bath on a towel and i was perfectly capable of sitting on the edge of the bath and swinging...
