Revision TKR Left TKR for a 2nd time

Have been to the orthopaedic surgeon on Monday. X-rays show that the cement on theTKR of the left knee is getting worse and needs replaced. Went to the expert in Fayetteville this morning and he agreed. They are not sure why the right knee cement is showing very little wear and tear and the...

    Body rejecting cement

I visited with another OS. He has done many TKRs and many 2nd surgeries. He said that the xrays do show a gap at the top of the lower legs which is much wider than it should be at one year out. Since there is no pain involved we are just going to do "serial xrays" and keep an eye on them...

    Body rejecting cement

When I got up from my desk at approximately 5:30 PM, my knee started swelling with pain again. Had been out working claims and driving most of the day, I am a property insurance adjuster, and at my desk since 2:00. No signs of pain out of the ordinary but when I stood up there was a sharp...

    Body rejecting cement

Thanks all for asking, I am doing fine cancer wise. Am taking Glevec, it was originally made for Lukemia but they have recently started using it for GIST tumors. The cancer is not cureable at this point but they think they can keep it in remission with the Glevec. The pain from the walk...

    Body rejecting cement

Wednesday evening we went for a short walk. Towards the end of the walk my right knee started to hurt and I could barely put weight on it. We were at the walking trail and by the time we got home the knee was swollen twice it's regular size. Any movement caused very sharp pain. I went to my...

    Pain management, again

Kneesup: Here in the Ozarks, we eat breakfast, lunch and supper. Only tea we drink is sweet iced tea. And in the south you sweeten tea when it's made, not by adding sugar to non sweetned tea, it justs collects at the bottom of the glass. :WINK1:

    Pain management, again

If I have learned anything from this forum, it is to not be afraid to take pain meds. If you are in pain, you do not have to worry about getting hooked. We are 3 months out from the LTKR and still take Tramadol and one Norco at night. Am going to the gym 3-5 times a week and I think that is...

    TKR video

Thanks all. I found the one I was looking for and another good one as well. I didn't watch it until after the surgeries. Since the before pain was bad, I would have probably gone through with the surgery even after watching the video, but I think it is better that I didn't know how rough they...

    TKR video

I watched a video showing the entire TKR last week. I'm sure I found it on this site somewhere. Have looked everywhere I can think of and can't find it again. Any help in finding it again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KC

What should I take now for pain?

Don't get me wrong, I would just as soon take the good stuff. Took one Norco tonight, the first one in days, and my legs feel better than they have in days. Maybe I just answered my own question? The last thing I want to do is become additcted to anything though. Have an appointment with my...

What should I take now for pain?

I think there was a misunderstanding. My last surgery LTKR was on Dec 1st 2010, and the RTKR was seven weeks prior to that. So that makes me 2½ months out from surgery. Still too soon to be looking at OTC?

What should I take now for pain?

Started with Oxycodone and dilaudid, then went to Hydrocondone and now on Darvocet (I saved some refills from last summer prior to surgery). Am taking approximately 4 Darvocet per day and they are running low. What is the best over the counter medication to move on to? We have kept a few...

    Leenie's Crabby, Tired and Achy

I'm ten weeks out from my LTKR, 17 weeks from the RTKR. Taking Darvocet 3 times a day and one Norco at bedtime. Sometimes we will need 2 Darvocet at a time depending on the pain level. Still probably pushing what we are supposed to be doing, but it seems like we hit another breakthrough point...

    Weight loss

I had my RTKR on Oct. 13 and my LTKR on Dec 1. During recovery I lost approximately 25 lbs. Guess the pain meds and the surgery suppressed the appetite, have no idea. When I went to the PT after the second surgery she was alarmed at the weight loss. I had not even noticed it. Bad news is...

    Ambien

How does the Ambien work with pain meds? Have heard some real horror stories about Ambien alone, sounds kind of scary to take on top of pain meds. Like a couple of others, I have taken 2 Xanax .5 mg to sleep at night for over 15 years. Have never used more than 2 and my doctor said that if I...

    How much should I workout

Just wanted to check in and let you all know how things are working out. We cut the workout back and things are much better now. Have found out that the leg weights make the knees really hurt if over 50 lbs. per leg or 130 lbs. total. The stationary bike makes the legs feel good. If the snow...

    Abbreviations

BTKR--bilateral total knee replacements -----does this mean both knees at once?? If so, I have no idea how anyone can do that. Seven weeks apart was bad enough, can't imagine both at the same time.

    Abbreviations

I am thankful for finding this website, it has helped tremendously as far as knowing what to expect and what not to worry about. My only problem is that are some abreviations that are not familiar to me. Here are some that I think we have figured out: TKR = Total knee replacement PKR =...

    How much should I workout

I guess when I heard my doctor say that there were "no restrictions" when I asked about working out I thought that meant work hard. Have been going back to the gym but have cut the workout in half. The knees are much better. How long will I have stiffness when I get up from sitting for a...
