@JoeL Good pic! you'll have to wait to drive; too much traffic in chi-town
WTG Sheryl @Me2 on your drive!
@Cantabrigian , @GaRosehippy I found some fairly inexpensive French cheese that I liked that doesn't seem to be well known here called smoked Rambol. Yummy!

@Cantabrigian @MajorHeidi - Wine & cheese conversations do not make for good bedtime reading. I feel like running (ok walking) to the kitchen to check out the fridge but alas I know I won't find either one. Making a mental note to look for smoked Rambol - sounds interesting, I love smoked cheese.

I am 9 days post surgery and am also trying to take daily walks. my problem is that I am not able to lift the operated right leg because the groin has little strength to support it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Mornin' all you hippies! :)
Just popped in after 6+ hours or non-stop sleep, without needing ice in the night either. :)

Well done @Me2 on your first drive... hopefully it was just as easy as other things you've been up to recently.

My little milestone from yesterday evening (at D+12), was half a dozen little leg lifts, lying on the bed. Ok, so the right leg didn't get higher than a pillow off the bed, but it's all orogress. :spin:

@teachone I think we all struggle at first. My OS (rightly) used the term (French "aggression") (English "assault") when describing what has happened to our bodies during the op. It is normal after a physical assault to need time to recover, hence the reduced muscle strength in our legs.

There are several simple PT exercises you can do (the link escapes me at this hour, but I am sure a fellow BS will post it for you). Even simple things like turning your toes towards you, to gently stretch the thigh muscles can help.

@MajorHeidi Rambol....? Smoked cheese..! That's not proper cheese (excuse my French lol).
(I had to look it up too, as I had never heard of it looool).
I'm talking about the raw milk varieties, where you can still smell and taste the hay. I don't know what current US health restrictions are like regarding raw milk cheese, but it is night and day compared to lots of the plastic industrial cheese you can buy.
Cheese is (sorry, should be!) a living thing, which, like good wine, matures with age.
If you have a specialist cheese shop nearby, have a chat an ask about the above. If they import, can they get raw milk too...? Trust me, you'll love it.

I have just had a visit from the nurse, to take my dressing and strips off.
It looks great!! :yes!:
Even unwashed, it is hard to distinguish the actual scar. I will try to post a pic later.
Not having the dressing tight over the thigh helps too.
The best news, is that I have a thumbs up to hit the swimming pool. Yooppeee! :swim:

Oh the pool! You lucky duck you! I cannot wait for the outdoor pool to open here at end of May. Woohoo!
Your pool will feel so good, @Cantabrigian !

Just back from my excursion to the swimming pool.
It is about a 50 min drive round trip, and I felt gardly any discomfort being behind the wheel that long.
I managed 40 mins in the water. Not swimming as such, but wading through the pool at a gentle pace (instead of my morning walk). I also managed some straight leg exercises, holding on to the egde of the pool. It felt great to be back in the water, and the scar looks fine afterwards too.

@MajorHeidi guess who's going back again tomorrow, and possibly Friday ....? lol
Your turn will come, and I am sure it will feel just as good. :egypdance:

Cantabrigian-

So glad your doing so well and in obvious good spirits! Hope your hanging around some in the weeks to come and can stop in and review my thread.

Its cracking me up that one of the milestones seems to be the first alcoholic drink....yet I know I will be the same way exactly!

I am currently getting ready to be gone from work until next September!

@Cantabrigian The pool sounds wonderful. And so does the driving. I am 4 1/2 weeks post op and still haven't driven. Still waiting to see my OS for a follow-up so he can release me. But, I'm thinking I'm going to drive myself to the store today. I know I can do it and I'm tired of waiting!

@Cantabrigian Bravo on the pool today! :swim:
That's a good idea to do those pesky straight leg raises in the water.
I suspect most all the standing exercises would be good to do in the pool.

Yes, I am really looking forward to getting to enjoy the pool. I am so happy for you.
you are rockin' this thing.
:yes!:

Oh good afternoon @Cantabrigian almost time for a nice cheese course:
Fromager d'Affinois... Yummy

Nice healing on the incision. I thought mine was healing fast. Yours looks great!

The scar itself is healing well. However, I still have a lot of numbness in the thigh, between the scar and the knee. :( This in turn leads to a sore knee, and semi-sleepless nights, as it is hard to get comfortable. When I move during the day, it hurts less, but the thigh gets very stiff at night. Please tell me that I' m not alone in this....

Back to the pool for me soon... it felt so good yesterday, that I will try to go another 3-4 times befor I go back to work. (planned 05May).
Have a good one all you hippies !

As I am still awake at 245 a.m. my local time, I suppose you are ready to once again enjoy a lovely day. My numbness from incision to knee started disappearing inch by inch about day 16 until today I'm noticing definite feeling all over and responsiveness to touch. So not totally gone but only notice when I actually touch it. Still a little more noticeable to left of incision. MajorHeidi says her RTH is more to the right if incision.

Did I see that your "hip-cation" is coming to an end?
